Nonotifications.com (not related to the No Notifications extension) is extremely similar to Stopnotifications.com and to Removenotifications.com (this last one was pretty popular but it seems to have been removed from the Chrome Web Store). It’s related to browser extensions FlashIt and SMedia.

So, once Nonotifications.com is in your browser, it replaces your new tab.

First, Nonotifications.com has a search box for searching the internet. If you use it, you’ll notice that it ignores your search engine preferences and opens Yahoo.com.

For stopping notifications, which is what Nonotifications.com’s name implies, it has a button that opens your own browser settings, the chrome://settings/content/notifications page, which is accessible to anyone with or without the help of Nonotifications.com.

Browser hijacking

So, Nonotifications.com links to the page that you can by opening your browser’s settings. But with this button come a lot of potentially unwanted changes that Nonotifications.com makes to your browser:

• The new tab page is changed. This means that your frequently visited sites, bookmarks, and your personal background image aren’t visible.
• The default search engine is also changed – to Yahoo.com, as is usual for shady browser add-ons. Even if you replace Nonotifications.com with another new tab page, it’ll still be able to redirect your searches to Yahoo.
• Nonotifications.com now has access to your usage information and device information, including your browsing history. This data can be used for showing you relevant ads.

It’s a very small thing for Nonotifications.com to open the notification settings page. It absolutely did not need to touch your search engine settings, to replace your new tab page, or to read your browsing history to do this. The notification settings button is just an excuse for Nonotifications.com to get access to your web browser, to your data, and to your traffic.

How to block notifications

If your browser is being spammed with notification pop-ups by sites like Mol11.biz and New-message.live, know that you can block them manually. First, open the page with your browser settings. Here are the instructions for a few different web browsers:

• Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
• Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
• Edge (Chromium) – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
• Firefox – open Settings, Preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.

Once you’re on the notifications page, you can see a bunch of addresses. Some are in the Allow list, some are in the Blocked list. The Allow list is the list of sites that your browser accepts notifications from.

Next to each address is a three-dot button that opens a menu with choices to Remove or Block. This refers to notifications from the site and the actual site. Choose Block and the site will be removed from the Allow list. It won’t send any new notifications to your browser.

In addition, there may be browser extensions that can show notifications in your browser. Those extensions need to be removed if you want to stop their pop-ups from appearing.
