Searchinguru.com Hijacker - How to remove

By Urte

Searchinguru.com is a website that tries to take the place of your home page and your search engine. It wants to be able to control how you search the web, what results and ads you see. It does not provide any worthwhile features in exchange for hijacking your browser.

If you noticed that Searchinguru.com appears on your screen, then it might be good to find what’s causing it and delete the adware. The program causing Searchinguru.com to appear might be a desktop app or a browser extension. In some cases, it might be a setting in your browser.

Searchinguru.com is not connected to websearch.searchguru.info, despite their similar names.

How Searchinguru.com works

Searchinguru.com replaces your new tab

Searchinguru.com is a newtab virus similar to Searchonlinepro.com, Searchresultsfinder.com, and Cmsnextgen.com. It also shares similarities with iStartSurf and FindWide.

Its home page has a search box in the middle; typing a query into the search box opens the search results page. Under the search box are ten links to various websites, some of them sponsored. Not very useful, either – I can’t see why clothing and real estate shopping sites would be put on a new tab page.

You can change the background pictures, pinned links, and default search engine used in your browser’s default new tab. But Searchinguru.com lacks these extremely basic features.

It takes over internet search results

Searchinguru.com’s search engine also lacks features, as it forwards visitors to Yahoo for all but the basic type of results. That, plus the numerous ads displayed on Searchinguru.com, cause the search results to load more slowly than they would on a better search engine site.

Searchinguru.com’s own search results are styled to look just like Google search results. However, the ads are delivered not by Google, but by Searchhill.com, Searchcspot.com, and other sites. While choosing anything other than text results on Searchinguru.com opens Yahoo.com.

Searchinguru.com's home page has a search box and some affiliate links below it.

Searchinguru.com tracks user data

Search engines like Searchinguru.com get access to a lot of valuable user data – people’s search terms. There are only a few search engines that don’t track people’s search activity.

Searchinguru.com’s privacy policy promises that your search queries are not used for any purpose other than providing relevant search results. That is reassuring, but it’s a little hard to trust a site that doesn’t even reveal what company is behind it.

Searchinguru.com also logs your PC specs (including checking whether you’re the admin). It wants to be able to identify your device. It says that it may use this data for advertising and other purposes.

How to remove Searchinguru.com

To stop Searchinguru.com from appearing in your browser, just find and delete the malicious program that is causing Searchinguru.com to show up. The program might be a desktop app, or it might be a browser add-on.

Browser hijackers tend to get installed without permission and this can happen in two main ways:

You can use anti-malware apps (like Spyhunter for Mac, Combo Cleaner for Mac, Spyhunter for PC, and others) to help you. However, some adware infections, especially browser extensions, might slip by security scanners without tripping any alarms. In that case, you should remove the infection yourself as described in the instructions below.

Remember that the adware that causes Searchinguru.com to appear might appear to be completely unrelated to Searchinguru.com. Use a security program to protect your computer from bundlers.
