How to restore svchost.exe if you are affected by the w32/wecorl.a McAfee update? April 22, 2010 By Renata McAfee has recently released a new update for their antivirus program. This update can make damage to your computer as it contains a false positive on C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe file which might be erased from the system and as a result, your Windows would no longer be able to restart. If your computer runs Windows XP Operating System with Service Pack 3 you are at the risk zone to be affected. The only way to fix this problem is by using the Windows XP Recovery Console or Windows boot CD. If you don’t have the Windows Recovery Console installed on your computer you will have to use Windows XP CD in order to access it. As soon as you reach the recovery console you have to type in copy \windows\system32\dllcache\svchost.exe \windows\system32 and then press Enter. Make sure to type this command correctly, mind the space between copy and \windows, svchost.exe and \windows. These are the only two spaces in the command. After you press Enter, you will see that 1 file has been copied. The last step is to type Exit and press Enter one more time and your computer will be restarted and C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe file will be restored. However, it is possible that McAfee will try to delete it again. So do not allow this to happen or you will have to start the restoration of C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe file from the beginning once again. 1 responses to “How to restore svchost.exe if you are affected by the w32/wecorl.a McAfee update?” i have been deleting the svchost from system32 in windows xp.are svchost and svchost.exe are same?
