Appstation WebCamera Snapshot is a browser add-on. It looks useful at first, promising to help users take good pictures with their camera. But once installed, Appstation WebCamera Snapshot makes unwanted changes to browser settings, shows unwanted ads, and tracks user data.
Not to mention, the Appstation WebCamera Snapshot extension itself doesn’t take camera pictures – it sends users to a website to do this.

Appstation WebCamera Snapshot
Appstation WebCamera Snapshot changes browser settings
Appstation WebCamera Snapshot is a browser add-on. It offers to help you take pictures with your camera. It’s related to Appstation AntiVirus Scan.
The add-on also replaces the new tab page and changes your search settings.
Now, when you open a new tab in your browser, it looks different – no more background pictures, no more links to your favorite websites. Only a search bar in the middle of the page.
When you search the web directly from your address bar or from the search box on the new tab page, Appstation WebCamera Snapshot makes it so that your search results are returned by Nearbyme.io, Bing.com, or another unexpected site.
If you said that these features don’t help Appstation WebCamera Snapshot take pictures, you’d be right. Oh, but we’re only halfway through listing the add-on’s problems.
Appstation WebCamera Snapshot shows unwanted ads
After Appstation WebCamera Snapshot is installed, it opens Chromeapps.site/camera. This is the site that delivers Appstation WebCamera Snapshot’s camera functionality.
Extensions should never just open a website to deliver their features. Such extensions don’t need to exist – they can be replaced with bookmarks. All that Appstation WebCamera Snapshot is doing is invading people’s privacy and manipulating their browser settings.
By the way, Chromeapps.site/camera is full of low-quality ads: ads that lie about their destination, fake virus alerts, fake app notifications (such as an ad disguised as a “pending message” notification that actually leads to a betting site). And if you allow Chromeapps.site/camera to send you notifications, it starts spamming you with pop-ups.
The Appstation WebCamera Snapshot extension also shows ads of its own. Most prominently, promotes another browser extension – AD&POP Block – through 1stepdownload.com, a site flagged by some antivirus scanners as Malware (Virustotal.com).
How to get rid of Appstation WebCamera Snapshot
Delete Appstation WebCamera Snapshot and other malware
To free your browser from Appstation WebCamera Snapshot, to undo all the changes, it’s recommended to uninstall it and other potentially unwanted extensions. The instructions for how to remove extensions can be found below.
You may want to scan your computer with an anti-malware app (such as Spyhunter for Mac, Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, etc.). Anti-malware scanners might not detect all bad browser extensions, but they can find suspicious and potentially unwanted desktop apps and programs that could be related to the Appstation WebCamera Snapshot infection.
After removing all unwanted add-ons, open the notification settings in your browser and, if needed, block notifications from sites that abuse them.
Check your new tab and search settings to make sure that Appstation WebCamera Snapshot no longer has a hold on them.
How to avoid hijackers
Remember – browser add-ons have access to a lot of your data. Often, they can see your browsing history. Sometimes, they can read the content of the pages that you visit. It would be very dangerous if a malicious extension got that kind of access to your browser. So, be careful about what you install from the Chrome Web Store and other extension stores.
You can use ad blockers and malicious site blockers to avoid bad and dishonest ads that push browser hijackers. But if one does slip through and take over your browser, you’ll now know how to remove it.
