Auto-secured.com is a site that redirects your searches if you have the ASecured add-on installed. It’s supposed to improve your privacy, however, it’s actually a huge privacy violator as it collects your browsing data, watches how you react to advertisements, and can even inject ads into your internet search results. It would be best to remove ASecured to stop Auto-secured.com’s interference with your web browser.

How Auto-secured.com works
A security extension?
Auto-secured.com (not to be confused with Autosecured.com) is a mostly-empty site that doesn’t appear to do much besides promoting the ASecured browser extension. And yet, it’s estimated to be getting over a million visits per month.
Advertised on free video streaming sites, ASecured is described as offering secured search results and “automatic secured search queries”, whatever that means. Supposedly, Auto-secured.com helps you protect your search activity from snooping.
That’s its description, however, it’s so vague that I’m not sure what is meant by it. Does Auto-secured.com keep search engines from tracking you? Well, not really, especially not if you’re logged in. Auto-secured.com may inject additional items into your search results, but it doesn’t seem to help your security in any way, either.
If anything, Auto-secured.com’s privacy policy reveals that it’s terrible for your privacy. It collects pretty much all the data it can:
- your browsing history,
- what ads you saw, which of them you clicked on, and how you interacted with the ads,
- your location, language, other settings,
- it can see all your data on all the sites that you visit.
Auto-secured.com then uses it to identify your accounts, deliver targeted advertising, and help other advertisers and publishers offer relevant ads. It’s nothing new for browser extensions to spy on their users.
So, I’d say that ASecured is bad for your privacy. Contrary to its description on the Chrome Web Store.
Search hijacker
From what I can tell, all that ASecured does is redirect your searches to Auto-secured.com. After that, it’s up to Auto-secured.com what happens. In my case, it would open Google.com (a very popular search engine) and show the results for what I just searched for.
This has a few unwanted effects:
- searches take a little longer, as they need to be redirected to Auto-secured.com,
- you can’t select another search engine as you’re stuck with whatever Auto-secured.com decides.
Also, it’s incredibly concerning that ASecured can see all your data on all the websites that you visit. This means it could see your passwords, payment info, address, even direct social media messages – if it wanted to. I’m not saying that it does spy on you, but still. Most browser hijackers that we look at here on 2-Viruses do not ask to access your data on all sites.
In many ways, Auto-secured.com is similar to Smashtab.net and Shopping-friend.xyz, only it’s potentially even more harmful.
How ASecured spreads
Auto-secured.com is advertised on video streaming sites, both regular and adult ones. You might see pop-up ads covering the video you’re trying to watch, new tabs opening randomly in your browser, fake download buttons, etc. Ads on pirating sites tend to be intrusive, aggressive, and often – misleading.
If you installed ASecured yourself, it might have been done in passing and quickly, where you might have assumed that ASecured was needed for a site to work, to play videos, etc. If you’re sure that you didn’t install ASecured yourself, then I recommend scanning your computer for potentially unwanted programs that might have been installed it for you.
How to remove Auto-secured.com
Uninstall ASecured
To stop Auto-secured.com from interfering with your searches and seeing your data on all the sites, remove ASecured. At the same time, remove other browser extensions that have unnecessary access to your data, that have concerning privacy policies (just skim the privacy policy of each extension – the parts about what data is collected and how it’s used), and those that you don’t use.
Remove suspicious programs
Scan your computer with an antivirus program, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, or another one). Then examine the scan results for potentially unwanted programs, Trojans, Downloaders, Adware, that sort of thing. programs detected by such names are those that install adware and other malware without warning you well enough and they could be responsible for installing unwanted add-ons on your browser.
