If you click on it normally, Bitfly.io still opens new tabs with advertisements in them. Eventually, though, it does open the real destination.

Avoid unwanted ads

Bitfly.io and other URL monetizers are used by infringing download sites (pirate sites), adult video sites, and similar websites. One way to avoid them would be sticking to paid websites that don’t show ads at all.
