ChatZum Virus - How to remove

ChatZum virus is a browser extension that can be added to any of Internet browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple Safari. It offers a function of magnifying Facebook images when hovering over with the mouse and enlarging chat thumbnail photos. Together with ChatZum toolbar you will be installing a software program on your computer with features including a search box and search assistant. It means that your home page, default search engine and new tab page will be replaced with search.chatzum.com. Search Assistance is a function when you place a search query in the address bar or misspell an address and this feature provides you with supposedly relevant links and search results.

ChatZum can be downloaded from its official website yet in most cases it enters computer without a clear user’s consent. Those having ChatZum virus complain that it got into PC without their approval and replaced their search engine with search.chatzum.com without their knowledge. The truth is that all this is done legally even though the means used are not that fair. Most often ChatZum is installed together with freeware or shareware, for example various codec, torrents, video file converters and similar. Many of us select an automatic installation option and do not read any instructions. The latter always inform about additional applications to be added by default. You could have taken a check box off and avoid these unpleasant redirection. Alas, if you did not, you will find removing ChatZum virus is quite a complicated procedure, especially if you want to do it manually.

We recommend removing files causing redirection to search.chatzum.com using special antimalware tools such as Spyhunter. It will not only save your time but also ensure that any other adware and browser hijackers installed together with ChatZum virus are deleted. Moreover, if while having redirections your computer got infected with viruses or Trojans, this tool will detect and remove them as well.

For a manual removal you will need to uninstall ChatZum virus via Control Panel but this is not enough. You will also need to remove it from browser extensions. Please note, that the application might be named by anything else than ChatZum. Another place to check is registry entries. You should delete anything related to this unwanted application. To reset your search page follow these instructions:
For IE:

• Open IE and go to ‘Tools‘ → ”Manage Add-ons’.
• Choose ‘Toolbars and Extensions’ and uninstall everything related to ChatZum from the list.
• Choose ‘Search Providers’ → choose the search engine you used before and make it your default search provider. Additionally, select ‘Web Search’, click ‘Disable suggestions’ to disable it.
• Go ‘Tools’ → ‘Internet Options’ and select ‘General’ tab. Click ‘Use default’ or enter your own website name, google.com or other. Finally, click ‘OK’ to save the changes.

For Mozilla Firefox:

• Open Mozilla Firefox, go ‘Tools’ → ‘Add-ons’.
• Choose ‘Extensions’ → ChatZum and click ‘Uninstall’.
• Go ‘Tools’ → ‘Options’. Finally, reset the startup homepage or change it to google.com.

For Google Chrome:

• Click on the icon ‘Customize and control Google Chrome’, select ‘Options’.
• Choose ‘Basic’ Options and change Google Chrome homepage to google.com or any other browser and then click the ‘Manage search engines…’ button.
• Choose ‘Google’ and make it your default search engine.
