ConvertItSearch is an extension that hijacks your browser and causes your internet search to behave unexpectedly. ConvertItSearch replaces your usual search engine and opens unexpected websites on your screen (Yahoo, Mybrowser-search.com, others). It also records your usage data, including your search history.
It’s recommended to uninstall ConvertItSearch and to check your device for other potentially unwanted apps and extensions.

How ConvertItSearch works
Installed unintentionally
Normally, people install browser extensions for their valuable browser-enhancing features.
But if you installed ConvertItSearch, then you most likely did it unintentionally. This add-on is advertised on file download sites, free movie sites, and similar websites. Vague pop-ups that invite you to “Continue”, “Download”, or “Install” something might look like they’re part of whatever site you’re browsing. In reality, they’re just ads for ConvertItSearch or another hijacker.
These intentionally vague ads lead people to browser add-ons without really explaining what the add-ons do. In the case of ConvertItSearch, this is a hijacker:
- It changes your browser’s search settings. It makes Feed.convertitsearch.com your default search engine. This gives Feed.convertitsearch.com control over your search results.
- It also reads your browsing history and your search terms. It may share this data with third parties.
You might not even notice that ConvertItSearch is installed. At first, nothing looks too different. But the ads and search redirects soon become obvious.
Hijacks web search
In its description on the Chrome web store, ConvertItSearch says that it changes your search settings so that Yahoo delivers search results. But, in my experience, it also opens some untrustworthy websites, such as Landdays.xyz and Mybrowser-search.com. So, you never know what you’ll get with ConvertItSearch.
Even with your search engine hijacked, you can still navigate to websites normally. It just takes a little longer and is a little annoying. But you shouldn’t have to deal with inconveniences like that. Remove ConvertItSearch, check your search settings, and your browser will be free again.
If your browser starts behaving in a strange way, it’s important to check what’s causing this behavior. More ads, ads on sites that don’t usually show them, redirects and reloads, and other small problems could all show that there’s a browser add-on messing with your browser.
And though ConvertItSearch and other hijackers are very mild compared to other malware, they can cause problems in the long term. They could expose you to low quality ads and dangerous content. So, it’s better to find and solve such problems quickly.
How to stop ConvertItSearch redirects
Since ConvertItSearch is a browser add-on, you can uninstall it like any other add-on: by going into your browser settings and then the Extensions page, or by right-clicking ConvertItSearch’s icon in the top right of your browser.
If ConvertItSearch is missing the “Remove” button or if the Remove button is grayed out, then it’s likely that ConvertItSearch was installed by a malicious program, which is when removal becomes a little complicated.
You can find and remove malware Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others. It’s recommended to check your computer and to always have a good security program running in the background.
The instructions for removing browser extensions can be found below, in the next section.
Since ConvertItSearch’s website, Convertitsearch.com, asks visitors to subscribe to its notifications, take a look at those settings, as well:
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge (Chromium) – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
If Convertitsearch.com is “Allowed” to send you notifications, change that permission to “Blocked”.
