Coupon Club App (Couponclubapp.co) is a plugin that replaces the new tab page in your browser in order to promote specific websites and services to you. Coupon Club App delivers web search results in the Yahoo search engine, so it might be seen as a Yahoo redirect virus. Although Coupon Club App promises to save you a lot of money by giving you access to tons of discounts, coupons, and offers, it is actually just an adware application that tricks people into installing it.

Ito Media is the company that created Coupon Club App and the extension is extremely similar to it and Hyperconnect Media’s other extensions, such as Web Gamer World, Accurate Weather Today, and Instant Inbox. All these extensions propose to do different things but all have one goal: to monetize your time spent online by directing you to sites where you are shown ads.
So, when you use the browser that has Coupon Club App installed on it, you see more ads than you would otherwise: ads in search results, pop-ups from Coupon Club App and other sites, and are recommended sites that are filled to the brim with promoted content.
Something that advertisers really like is targeted ads. These are very effective, but they require information about the user first: your likes, how much money you have, where you live, etc. This is something that makes Coupon Club App doubly useful as adware: this browser extension can read your browsing history and what you search for and it can use this information for behavioral ads:
We may also use your information […] to present you with advertising and promotions that we determine may be of interest to you.
That’s not wrong in and of itself, but know that that’s basically what Coupon Club App is about – showing you ads.
How did Coupon Club App get into your browser?
To explain how and why your browser has changed the new tab page to Coupon Club App and why search results are being delivered by Yahoo, it will be useful to look at the possible ways that Coupon Club App gets inside people’s browsers:
- Installed by a free program in the background.
- Advertised on pirated streaming sites.
- Links shared in social media.
- Ads on coupon sites.
One of the ways that Coupon Club App gets installed is when a free application’s installer is modified to include this add-on. It’s called bundling, the distributor of the free program usually gets a bit of money for every installation of the additional offers (in this case, Coupon Club App), and it often happens without the knowledge of the user because they simply don’t notice the offer. Coupon Club App just appears in your browser the next time you open it.
Ads to Coupon Club App are posted on sites like Putlockers and OnlineVideoConverter – sites known for their dangerous ads. Other “free” streamers also advertise Coupon Club App, as they do other browser hijackers, too. But more interestingly, sites that claim to help you earn free gift cards and vouchers promote Coupon Club App. Remember, this hijacker links you to a couple of coupon-aggregating sites, but doesn’t actually do anything to help you get free stuff or discounts (not that that would help you save money anyway). It shows you ads, and that just doesn’t count.
Some people install Coupon Club App because they hope to save money on online shopping by getting free vouchers and discounts. Coupon Club App is often installed by other shopping-themed software that was downloaded from sites promising to help you save money. These sites sign people up for promotional material, get them to subscribe to unwanted services, and to install browser hijackers.
And, like with other hijackers, some of the links to Coupon Club App are shared in social media, so be careful what you click on, especially if the link is shortened.
How to remove Coupon Club App
The browser plugin can be removed from your browser like any other – through browser settings. Detailed instructions are shared in the below section.
If it doesn’t work, if the hijacker was brought into your computer by a PUP (potentially unwanted program), or if you simply don’t remember intentionally installing Coupon Club App, then it’s a good idea to scan your computer with an anti-malware program, for example, Combo Cleaner for Mac or SpyHunter for PC. That would help you check if no suspicious files and applications are on your computer and you can remove them before they cause more problems.
Other than that, there’s not much to worry about. Coupon Club App can read your browsing history and search queries, but it didn’t steal your passwords or payment information, I think. It’s not exactly malware, rather, it’s adware, which makes it harmful, but not really dangerous in itself.
