I decided to start with Deathloop. This is a game that is not out yet at the time of writing and is planned to be exclusive to Playstation. As Cpygamescracked.com does offer us a PC download, I was curious what would happen.

Cpygamescracked.com showed a page for the game, complete with hilariously low system requirements and a bunch of download links.

Adsnapy.com, an advertising site

We’re taken to Adsnapy.com, where we have to wait a few seconds and look at some ads. In addition, Adsnapy.com offers to show us notifications – to deliver us more advertisements.

Clicking anywhere on Adsnapy.com does open pop-up ads for, in my case, betting and gambling sites and adult games. Nothing too dangerous, but very annoying. Also, not very appropriate for children who are likely to try and use a site like Cpygamescracked.com.

Pastemytxt.com, more pop-up ads

Next, we land on Pastemytxt.com. Here are a bunch of links that, this time for sure, should allow us to download the game in multiple parts (ignore the fake download links at the top and bottom). Trying to interact with Pastemytxt.com to actually copy the text is very difficult as the site keeps opening ads in new browser windows.

These ads are for payday loans, subscription scams, and more betting sites appear on my screen. This is why, if you visit dangerous sites often, ad blockers are so helpful.

The links point to the download site that was chosen on Cpygamescracked.com. The links that I visited on multiple file download sites give me the same answer: “This file does not exist”.

Sometimes, Cpygamescracked.com would lead me to real files, such as the Megaup.net links. They weren’t Deathloop, though. I didn’t get a chance to try them, but each game that I looked at on Cpygamescracked.com pointed to the same group Megaup.net files. They’re definitely not unique installers.

Fake game sites are not quite pirating sites. But they are still dangerous.

Protect yourself from malware
