Dailyrecipeguide.com is a browser extension that’s been flagged by multiple antivirus programs (Virustotal link). Dailyrecipeguide.com is not very harmful and can’t really be called malware. But it does cause unwanted pop-up ads, browser redirects, and it comes with some privacy issues. Dailyrecipeguide.com does not care about the user’s experience; it’s adware and a browser hijacker.

Dailyrecipeguide.com – browser hijacker
Dailyrecipeguide.com has been installed by over 70 thousand users on Chrome browsers. How come? Is Dailyrecipeguide.com just that good?
Well, not really. As you can see from Dailyrecipeguide.com’s one and only review on the Chrome Web Store, this is just another browser hijacker. It’s advertised on recipe sites and in the results of alternative search engines, its main ad doesn’t make it very clear that it’s for a browser extension, and so people sometimes just install it without really meaning to.
As a browser extension, Dailyrecipeguide.com (or rather, Daily Recipe Guide) does these things:
- reads and changes your data on Ask.com, Myway.com, and Dailyrecipeguide.com,
- changes your new tab page to Myway.com,
- reads your browsing history,
- shows notifications.
In theory, Dailyrecipeguide.com is supposed to somehow help users search recipes. It does this by displaying a few links to recipe sites on the newly hijacked new tab page. This is such a bad way to do this. Dailyrecipeguide.com takes away your control over your new tab page, possibly a lovingly crafted and personalized one, just to replace it with this outdated and ugly-looking thing:
You even get an ad on this new tab page, and for what? Just so you can enjoy those five recipe-related links at the top.
Other “features” that Dailyrecipeguide.com offers include a search box that opens Myway.com, the search engine owned by the same company that made Dailyrecipeguide.com (Ask Applications/Mindspark). Ads displayed on Myway.com make money for that company, sp Dailyrecipeguide.com’s main purpose is to funnel more people to go to Myway.com. That’s why this search box is in the middle of the new tab page.
Not to mention Dailyrecipeguide.com’s notification pop-ups that also show advertisements. And some of those advertisements are low-quality or even dangerous, such as fake antivirus warnings, fake giveaways, and ads for other browser hijackers (such as 100sofRecipes, RecipeSearch, TotalRecipeSearch).
How to remove Dailyrecipeguide.com
To remove the extension, you can go to browser settings (or the Control Panel, in some cases) and just remove the extension. It’s pretty simple and I put the instructions with screenshots below.
It’s also a good idea to scan your computer for malware and adware to make sure there aren’t any more infections (with Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, etc.). Dailyrecipeguide.com sometimes can come in an adware bundle. Adware promotes more adware. If your computer was infected for a while, there’s a decent chance there’s more than one bad program on it.
If the notification pop-ups keep showing up, you can turn them off by going into your browser settings:
- Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- New Edge – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Firefox – open Settings, Preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
There, look for Dailyrecipeguide.com and, if it’s there, click the menu option next to it. In the menu, select the “Block” option and you should stop seeing any new notifications (you might need to dismiss the accumulated ones). Remember that you’re always in control of these settings. Don’t let websites tell you to allow notifications or install this or that. There are too many malicious sites out there trying to take advantage.
