DiscountLocator - How to remove

DiscountLocator is yet another adware that gets installed onto users computers without their awareness. Even though developers of this application promise that it will enhance your browsing experience and save both your time and money by providing you with various discounts, coupons and other commercial offers, you should not believe that. Those ads usually appear on e-commerce websites like eBay or Amazon and offer you to buy particular goods at a better price rate. However, you should not believe that as all those offers come from the third parties and they are fake. If you decide to click on any of them, you’ll be immediately redirected to the third parties website that may be infected with viruses by cyber criminals and do damage to your computer. It is a browser add-on that can be added to all most popular web browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Furthermore, DiscountLocator will collect your personal data, such as browsing history, search queries or IP address and transfer this information to the third parties. They use it to adjust their ads according to given information and improve the click rate this way. Most of cyber security specialist advise to get rid of this malicious application, as it is more harmful than helpful.

DiscountLocator is distributed bundled with other free software that can be found on the Internet. I.e. when you download something for free from a suspicious looking website, you should be really attentive if you want to avoid installing DiscountLocator or some other adware. Pay attention to all steps of installation, do not skip them. If possible, opt out for a custom or advanced install mode. Read all terms and conditions. This will ensure that you don’t get anything unwanted installed. Using Control Panel to remove the main DiscountLocator components and installers

1. Go to Control Panel. On Windows XP/Vista/7 open Start -> Control Panel , Add/Remove Programs or Uninstall . On Windows 8 enter Control Panel in the search box, then look for Uninstall a program. You may need to confirm that you are the administrator on this PC, in both cases.
2. Look for DiscountLocator and /or similar looking items on the list of programs. By default, I recommend removing Yontoo, WebCake, anything “savings” or “coupon” related. Scanning with Anti-Malware programs like Spyhunter or Stopzilla might give a good idea of what programs you should remove from there as well.
3. Close Control Panel.

Removing DiscountLocator from Internet Explorer

1. Press on the Wench icon->Manage Add-ons.
2. Go through Toolbars and extensions. Remove everything related to DiscountLocator and items you do not know that are made not by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Oracle or Adobe.
3. Close the Options.

Removing DiscountLocator from Firefox

1. Enter about:addons in URL field.
2. Go through Extensions and Addons list, remove everything DiscountLocator related and items you do not recognise. If you do not know the extension and it is not made by Mozilla, Google, Microsoft, Oracle or Adobe probably you do not need it.
3. Optionally, reset Firefox: go to Firefox ->Help (Help in menu for OSX users) -> Troubleshooting Information. Then Reset Firefox.

Removing DiscountLocator from Chrome

1. Enter chrome://extensions in url field.
2. Go through extensions list and remove programs you do not need, especially similar to DiscountLocator. If unsure, you can disable them temporarily.
3. Restart Chrome.

Optionally, you can enter chrome://settings in URL bar, press Advanced settings, scroll to the bottom of the list and press Reset browser settings.
