DNS-Locker shows numerous coupons, deals, and discounts, plus it is able to convert the common words of the visited websites into hyperlinks. When clicking on these links you will be redirected to many dubious pages on the web that will be absolutely irrelevant to your scopes of interests. Distribution of DNS-Locker occurs through bundling with many free programs. It is impossible to install it from any official page due to the fact that DNS-Locker is promoted through stealthy methods without the user’s direct intention.
Is DNS-Locker a helpful tool
The authors of DNS-Locker present their tool as a handy utility that lets you mask your real IP address in order to help you be anonymous on the web. Even though this might seem like a beneficial function, the number of negative amendments introduced by DNS-Locker exceeds its positive features. DNS-Locker displays its unsolicited ads no matter whether you want to see them or not.
There are many decent programs today that help you hide your real IP address, such as the variety of VPN services. Some of them may introduce certain browser modifications too, however, many VPN tools are decent and do not show unwanted ads, unlike DNS-Locker. Therefore, if you would like to use some reliable software for masking your IP address, DNS-Locker is not the good choice at all.
How does DNS-Locker affect your browsing?
Upon successful installation, DNS-Locker sets up important system parameters in order to be stared together with your Windows operating system. Whenever you go online and visit your favorite pages, DNS-Locker starts interfering with your browsing. It displays intrusive advertisement banners, pop-up ads and in-text ads mentioning that they are delivered to you by “DNS-Locker”. There may be some other variations of how the ads will be titled:
- Powered by DNS-Locker;
- Brought to you by DNS-Locker;
- Ads by DNS-Locker;
- You’ve received a premium offer from DNS-Locker.
Additionally, your browser may periodically open new browser tabs and redirect you to many suspicious pages on the web. Obviously, such behavior will be beyond your control. You may simply make an occasional click with the mouse, whereas this will unexpectedly forward you to a lot of resources that are absolutely irrelevant to you, for example:
- fake Microsoft customer support pages controlled by online criminals hunting for your money;
- misleading Adobe Flash Player, Java or other faulty software updates leading to the installation of PUPs (potentially unwanted programs);
- landing pages of third-party browser extensions (home page and search engine hijackers);
- fake surveys, questionnaires and other tricky websites that aim to collect your personal and financial details;
- websites promoting online games, casino, adult dating, and other filthy affairs.
Your computer is vulnerable before many cyber threats as long as the DNS-Locker adware is active. The program is interconnected with other malicious utilities, furthermore, it is able to permanently collect your personal details, for example, your IP address, the information you submit online through the search box or through the visited pages, your private and financial data and so on. This information may be granted to third parties (potentially, to online criminals) and wrongfully used for generating the revenue.
