EAdblock Search Manager is a search hijacker that is related to but separate from Easy Ad Blocker. EAdblock Search Manager causes search redirects to Yahoo. It is likely that some people installed this hijacker without meaning to. It’s advisable to remove it and either manage your searches yourself or use less intrusive browser extension.

What is eAdblock Search Manager
Search engine replacer
EAdblock Search Manager should not be confused with Easy Ad Blocker. One is a search hijacker and the other is an ad blocker.
Easy Ad Blocker, the browser extension, does work – it blocks some native ads and makes browsing certain websites much more bearable. The Windows installer version is not flagged by any anti-malware programs that I know of. And I didn’t experience any search hijacking.
On the other hand, eAdblock Search Manager replaces the default search engine in the web browser. Similarly to EasySearch Pro, it uses Yahoo as the default. Unlike EasySearch Pro, though, it actually lets the user choose which search engine they want to use.
Another related extension is eAdBlock Search – it works just like eAdblock Search Manager.
In short, eAdblock Search Manager:
- Does not block any ads on its own.
- Takes control over the default search engine.
- Allows the user to choose between four search engines by accessing extension settings.
EAdblock Search Manager doesn’t seem to be dangerous but it’s not helpful, either. It limits the search engines that you can use to four – Yahoo, and Omnibox.bar, Google, Bing. And changing the engine in eAdblock Search Manager is not that much faster than going into your browser settings every time.
Adware
EAdblock Search Manager belongs to Innova Media. One of the four search engines that eAdblock Search Manager makes available is Omnibox.bar, which is also operated by Innova Media.
Most likely, eAdblock Search Manager is used to monetize Easy Ad Blocker. Free commercial extensions need to make money somehow. We can only hope that the extensions are honest with their users about how they do it.
Users of Easy Ad Blocker may be encouraged to get eAdblock Search Manager so that the company behind it can make some money off of their searches. That way, Easy Ad Blocker can remain free to use. I’m just speculating here but eAdblock Search Manager’s reviews on the Chrome web store support my hypothesis. These reviews can be split into two types:
- People thanking eAdblock Search Manager for blocking ads (it does not block ads, they must be confusing it with Easy Ad Blocker).
- People unhappy with being forced to use Yahoo when they expected to install an ad blocker.
Installed accidentally
It appears as though some of the people who got eAdblock Search Manager were under the impression that they would be installing the ad blocker and not the search manager. Looks like they didn’t expect to get eAdblock Search Manager.
Also, there’s something suspicious about the extremely low number of ratings and reviews that eAdblock Search Manager has compared to its number of users – seventeen ratings to half a million users. Some users might not be aware that they have eAdblock Search Manager installed. Easy Ad Blocker encourages users to review the extension but eAdblock Search Manager doesn’t want that kind of attention.
How to remove eAdblock Search Manager
I did not notice any problems with Easy Ad Blocker. It seems to work and it’s well-reviewed.
But eAdblock Search Manager is a different story. I recommend removing it because it’s just a simple search hijacker – it’s objectively worse than managing you search engines yourself. Instructions for removing extensions are at the bottom.
If you do want to change your default search engine, below you can find instructions for managing those settings yourself. Plus, there are browser extensions that let you quickly use different search sites while also respecting your browser settings. Look for extensions that do not ask for any permissions.
It’s recommended to scan your computer with an anti-malware tool, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others. Adware infections often come in groups and so it’s a good idea to be careful and proactive in your cybersecurity.
