Easy Eyes is a browser extension that enables dark mode in web pages. For example, change the appearance of the websites that you visit to use a dark background.
But there’s a problem – Easy Eyes also redirects searches, injects ad banners, opens unwanted sites in new browser tabs, and tracks user data for advertising purposes. In other words, Easy Eyes is a browser hijacker. It should be removed as soon as it’s discovered to avoid it causing more problems.

What is Easy Eyes?
Easy Eyes hijacks internet search
Easy Eyes is a simple extension that changes the colors of the websites that you visit. It is pretty minimal and severely lacks customization compared to other dark mode extensions, but it does work.
However, when you install Easy Eyes, it checks whether you installed it after seeing an ad for it. And if you did, Easy Eyes starts redirecting your searches:
- Easy Eyes waits for you to open Bing and Google search.
- If one of these sites is open in your browser, the extension grabs your search query from the address and then adds the search query to its own search link.
- Easy Eyes closes the search tab and opens a new tab with its own link.
Easy Eyes returns the search results on Websearches.club, Fxsmash.xyz, or another alternative search site. Such sites don’t have any features to make them worth using, so they get malicious extensions like Easy Eyes to funnel traffic to them.
The extension might only redirect search irregularly, only hijacking every other search. You might also see new browser windows or tabs open on their own from time to time, also irregularly. The inconsistency of these events can be maddening, but don’t doubt your experience. When something goes wrong in your browser, it’s almost always the fault of a browser extension (in this case, Easy Eyes).
It tracks data and shows ads
As it interferes with internet searches, Easy Eyes can track user data. It logs people’s IPs, advertising identifiers, browsing history, and other information that helps recognize and track users. According to its privacy policy, Easy Eyes uses this information to show interest-based ads.
As we mentioned before, the extension can also read search queries. This isn’t mentioned in its privacy policy, so it’s unclear if people’s search history is recorded and used anywhere. If it is, it could be very useful for advertisers.
Another issue is that Easy Eyes does not reveal its developer. All we have is an email address. Who is the company behind this extension? Who pays for the websites?
Whoever it is, they have many very similar extensions, including Retina Defense, Custom Look, Beauty Backgrounds, Private Video, and others. Unfortunately, some of these extensions have thousands of users on the Chrome Web Store. Luckily, they get removed pretty regularly. These extensions have short lives.

It might be worth it to scan your computer with an antivirus program, like Spyhunter for Mac, Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, or others. If antivirus scanners detect anything suspicious on your device, look into it and remove the item if needed.
