EasyPhotoEdit (or Easy Photo Edit) is a browser add-on that you may or may not have intentionally added to your browser. This extension, though it has some useful features, also has characteristics of a browser hijacker, like redirecting searches to MyWay. This makes it suspicious because very few people looking for a photo-editing extension are going to be happy with being forced to use MyWay and Ask search engines. Unfortunately, the good in EasyPhotoEdit comes with the bad and, if you want to conveniently use a different search engine, EasyPhotoEdit will have to go.

EasyPhotoEdit sets you a new new tab page with Search Ask Web Search or type a URL in the address bar and a new search bar in the middle of the page. There is also a photo editing functionality accessible on the same page.
EasyPhotoEdit is meant to interest those looking for software to edit their images. However, it’s bound to be disappointing. For the developers of this extension, Mindspark, photo editing is secondary to advertising and collecting data about the browsing habits of the users. The photo editing, while functional, is very bare and nearly any basic, default offline image editing application is superior to what EasyPhotoEdit offers.
What is the problem with EasyPhotoEdit?
There are a few little problems, as you can probably guess from seeing this list of detections. For example, changing the browser settings too much or releasing new extensions to the point of them being spam (QuickPhotoEdit, Myphotoeditor.co, MyImageConverter).
Some antivirus programs accuse EasyPhotoEdit of being adware. Tracking and ads are something done by most commercial websites, including search engines. Still, it’s important to be aware of them because MyWay sometimes shows more ads than nearly any other search engine in the results page, which makes searching for information a little annoying.
The fact that EasyPhotoEdit works with online features introduces some risks:
This site does not use encryption measures for photos or information you upload. Therefore, information and photos that you upload by use of this site (as with any site that is non-encrypted), potentially could be collected and used by others. This may result in use of such information by third parties for their own purposes, legal or illegal. While we strive to protect your personal information and photos, Ask Apps cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information or photos you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.
This is another reason why using an offline editor might be preferable to EasyPhotoEdit. Not only do they have all the features, but there is also no risk of your images being exposed to other people without your consent.
Unwanted installation is yet another problem with EasyPhotoEdit. If it was installed on Chrome, the extension bundled Ask with it. Ask is more of a hijacker than EasyPhotoEdit is with its ability to read and change your data on the websites that you visit. Bundling is often used to smuggle malware and PUPs to people’s computers and it’s disappointing that EasyPhotoEdit uses it to promote Ask. Add-on permissions are displayed by a few browsers to give the user an idea of what the extension can do. For example, an extension that only changes the layout of your new tab page should not need to have access to your browsing history, so if it asks for this, it should make you pause. So when EasyPhotoEdit needs to track your browsing history or your data on MyWay and Ask websites despite the fact that those websites are perfectly functional without the add-on it’s a little concerning. Remember that extensions have access to your browser and the browser is used for very important tasks, such as online banking. Add-ons with excessive permissions should be viewed with suspicion.
How does EasyPhotoEdit spread?
EasyPhotoEdit is found by some people who search for various photo editing software. EasyPhotoEdit doesn’t hold a candle to any normal image editing programs but it’s advertised as that and some people want to try it out. Besides organic search, people find EasyPhotoEdit with the help of ads and social media promotion.
But these strategies don’t cover the majority of people who end up on EasyPhotoEdit. The problem is that products like this one are promoted by adware and other viruses, as well as bundlers. Bundlers are programs whose installers include potentially unwanted software (PUP). They are usually downloaded from freeware depositories and are advertised as a useful program. It’s only once you start the installation process do you have a chance to spot the additional programs. There’s also a chance that you won’t notice the “optional offers” and accidentally install them. Most of the time the promoted software isn’t any more harmful or annoying than EasyPhotoEdit but sometimes file-encrypting ransomware, or a trojan is included, and those can be devastating.
Be careful in the future when you’re installing programs. Remember that you can always uninstall an application that is behaving poorly and probably find a safer and better alternative.
How to remove EasyPhotoEdit
The way to remove EasyPhotoEdit from each browser is described below in detail and I encourage you to review all of your installed extensions and remove the ones that are suspicious or the ones you don’t use anymore. Extensions and apps can and do turn rogue.
You might also want to scan your device with an antivirus tool (like Spyhunter) and consider the warnings, if any are displayed, seriously. PUPs are not outright dangerous but they can put your device at risk.
