EasyRecipesSearch is advertised as letting you find and print recipes, but that’s not all that it does. Besides letting you quickly and easily search for recipes, EasyRecipesSearch replaces your default search engine to leech off you for some ad revenue. Those who install EasyRecipesSearch see internet search queries redirected to Yahoo.com. As for printing recipes, this feature doesn’t seem to be part of EasyRecipesSearch.

EasyRecipesSearch as a browser hijacker
Web browsers can benefit a lot from browser extensions. Extensions can enhance features, add new ones, and customize the browser in a way that makes it more fun to use. But not all extensions can be trusted with access to your browser. Some are created just to manipulate people’s browsers, directing them to associated sites, inflating their traffic, and then benefitting from increased advertising revenue. They’re called browser hijackers.
EasyRecipesSearch provides a quick way to search for recipes, collecting search results from multiple recipe sites. At the same time, it controls your default search engine and sets it to Yahoo (infamous for showing a lot of ads) by default. This, along with the fact that EasyRecipesSearch’s main function is not even related to internet search settings, could be enough to consider it a browser hijacker.
However, EasyRecipesSearch is not as bad as a lot of other web browser extensions. It has settings that let you choose between Yahoo, Google, and Bing as your main search engine, which, though, not perfect, is better than nothing. Also, EasyRecipesSearch’s privacy policy doesn’t have anything too bad. Your IP and data about your browser and operating system is collected and shared with a few service providers, which is not too bad.
EasyRecipesSearch is made by Tightrope Interactive, which is a company that’s already released a few other dubious browser extensions, including Search Private, OfficeX New Tab, MyMapsTab, and others. These extensions do offer their promised features, but at the same time, they mess with people’s search settings to monetize them.
How to avoid browser hijackers
EasyRecipesSearch is advertised on recipe sites as Print Recipe Search, which is not exactly what you get with EasyRecipesSearch and the difference is baffling. Why not just advertise honestly?
If you use a Chrome-based browser, you have to install extensions from the Google Chrome Web Store, which gives you some information about EasyRecipesSearch: number of users, reviews, a link to its privacy policy, and a detailed description. EasyRecipesSearch has over ten thousand users, yet not a single rating or review. That’s suspicious. It might mean that many users don’t know that they have EasyRecipesSearch installed:
- People might get confused by the ad’s unclear interface, where clicking the “Continue” button installs EasyRecipesSearch. “Continue” doesn’t imply that you will now download an extension. It’s deliberately misleading.
- Browser extensions often get bundled with free programs and are installed quietly in the background. Such bundles tend to be distributed on software download sites.
- Some extensions get installed in groups, where one redirects to another and ask you to continue the installation, falsely implying that a single installation process is happening.
In such cases, people may let browser extensions to be installed without realizing it. It’s important to remain vigilant and to check your installed extensions from time to time.
How to remove EasyRecipesSearch
If you wish to use EasyRecipesSearch but also don’t want EasyRecipesSearch’smakers to have control over your internet search, you can do that. EasyRecipesSearch pretty much only exists to open the s.easyrecipessearch-serp.com/public/home.html website, which is where the recipe search happens. You could have the same functionality by saving s.easyrecipessearch-serp.com/public/home.html in your bookmarks.
EasyRecipesSearch lets you choose your search engine from Yahoo, Bing, and Google, which is a pretty limited selection, not to mention that your search working right is now in EasyRecipesSearch’s grace.
To remove EasyRecipesSearch, you can manually remove or disable it in web browser settings (detailed instructions in the following section). A scan with an antivirus program (such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, etc.) would help you catch potentially unwanted programs, like adware bundles.
