EasySearch Pro (Easysearchpro.xyz) proposes to help you use and switch between multiple popular search engines in your browser’s start page. Unfortunately, it uses this access to hijack your search engine, spy on your browsing habits, and inject ads into the results. Looks like EasySearch Pro is just another browser hijacker.

Problems with EasySearch Pro
New tab changes
EasySearch Pro is a browser extension associated with the website Easysearchpro.xyz. Its main feature is letting users switch between three search engines – Google, Bing, and Yahoo. EasySearch Pro uses Yahoo as the default but it does allow you to switch between the three sites freely.
EasySearch Pro replaces the new tab page (the site that appears when you press the plus ‘+’ button in the row above or below your address bar), puts there a search box and a switch that controls which site – Bing, Yahoo, or Google – the search box takes you to. That works as expected. Although I’m not sure why EasySearch Pro opens a new tab to display the search results, it would be better if there was an option to change this.
You can switch your default search engines in browser settings but it isn’t as easy as clicking one button on your new tab. On the other hand, EasySearch Pro hides the page you had set as your default. It could just work from the extension pop-up instead, it would be less disruptive.
Default search changes
Seems like EasySearch Pro accomplished what it promised in the new tab. But it doesn’t stop there – it also changes the default search engine, the one that is used when you search by using the address bar. And this time, EasySearch Pro ignores which search engine is selected in the new tab page and instead always goes to Yahoo.
Officially, EasySearch Pro makes Y.easysearchpro.xyz the search engine but that goes straight to Yahoo.
The new tab also makes Yahoo the default choice. Yahoo is spread by browser hijackers all the time.
More ads
When EasySearch Pro redirected me to Yahoo, I consistently saw more ads than by using Yahoo normally. EasySearch Pro added up to two or three ads for the same queries. It also copied ads to up above the search results when vanilla Yahoo was displaying them only at the bottom. As a result, searching Yahoo with EasySearch Pro is not a very smooth experience. You need to scroll and scroll until you finally get to the results.
I did not notice any significant changes made by EasySearch Pro to Bing and Google’s search results. It looks like it’s only Yahoo that’s affected. And, thanks to EasySearch Pro replacing the default search engine, those additional ads are almost unavoidable.
Tracking
EasySearch Pro’s privacy policy lists all the data that is collected by the extension/site. This data includes:
- your IP, location, language,
- what you searched for – both in EasySearch Pro and in the results page,
- which ads you clicked on.
Although EasySearch Pro claims that this data is anonymized and not shared with third parties (it can be shared with related companies), it also says that the data may be used to help advertisers offer relevant ads.
Conclusion
EasySearch Pro is kind of terrible. Without much effort, I was able to find a superior browser extension “All in one web searcher”: it does not replace the new tab page, does not hijack the search engine, does not spy on users unnecessarily, and offers a bigger selection of sites to search. It asks for no permissions – unlike EasySearch Pro, which asks for three. There are many other similar but better extensions.
What’s EasySearch Pro’s excuse, then? Why does it make unhelpful changes? The only answer that I can think of is advertising. It likely gets a cut for all the ads that users see in Yahoo’s search results.
EasySearch Pro is similar to other browser hijackers, such as ShortcutTab and Searchpowerapp. Thousands and thousands of people have their browsers affected by these dishonest add-ons.
How to remove EasySearch Pro
You can use anti-malware programs to find and uninstall EasySearch Pro or you can do that manually. You can click on the puzzle piece button in the upper right, the three-dot menu next to EasySearch Pro, and then the button to remove it. Also, at the bottom are the instructions for removing extensions, changing your default search engine, and setting your new tab. You shouldn’t need to change those last two – but do check them just in case.
If you think that EasySearch Pro is not the only problematic add-on n your browser or if you have no idea how it appeared on your browser, I recommend running a scan of your computer with an anti-malware program. Any reputable application that you trust is fine, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, etc.
