EasyToolOnline is a website that lists online utilities like Local Classifieds, Easy File Converter, and some other browser hijackers, as well as legitimate web tools. This extension works very similarly to PackTrackPlus, another webpage that dishonestly manipulates people into installing an adware extension.
EasyToolOnline Ads
If EasyToolOnline Promos was installed, it can start showing you ads. The ads can be intrusive and annoying: pop-ups, redirects, links in text that lead to promoted content. This can severely disrupt your browsing experience and cost you focus, time, and computer processing power.
The EasyToolOnline extension is used to gather an audience for ads and earn money from advertisers who get to put their ads in front of people. These advertisements make use of the information that’s gathered about the users: their browsing habits and their demographics. Whether you see this as a breach of your privacy, or just a modern reality, I think it’s still important to be able to trust the people who have your data — and that seems unlikely with EasyToolOnline’s developers.
How was EasyToolOnline installed?
EasyToolOnline is an extension that’s actually responsible for the ads, but it’s difficult to imagine someone installing it willingly. This is why it’s important to examine how EasyToolOnline is distributed. Unsurprisingly, the extension uses distribution methods that are easy to abuse to push malware: bundling and dishonest ads on illegitimate advertising networks.
Malicious ads, adware viruses, or bundlers are most likely responsible for the Advertisements by EasyToolOnline extension being installed. But not necessarily — it’s also possible to find EasyToolOnline organically. Understanding how exactly EasyToolOnline ended up on your computer is important — it’ll let you know whether you need to worry about having an adware infection.
Bundling is just a method of aggressively promoting software by including it with another program, like a free sample. The problem is that the additional software is often poorly labeled, is installed by default, and sometimes the information about the additional software is hidden in Advanced options or omitted from the installer entirely. If EasyToolOnline was installed using this method, there must be another program that you installed during the time that advertisements form EasyToolOnline started. Uninstalling the bundler won’t affect EasyToolOnline, but it’s useful to know what to be careful of in the future.
Adware programs are those programs which show ads to users and try to do that above everything else. If you are seeing pop-up ads opening constantly, if new tabs in your browser open on their own, if websites look like they have more ads than usual, then you might have adware. If you never searched for EasyToolOnline but it’s still somehow installed, adware could be responsible for it.
Adware programs come in a few forms. One is a desktop application. It might have been included in a freeware bundle, or it might secretly be one of the installed tools that you don’t even suspect. Adware like this probably constantly shows pop-ups and new tabs with specific pages, and if EasyToolOnline was promoted to you this way, time to scan your computer and remove whatever adware has infected it.
Another type of adware is a browser hijacker — like what EasyToolOnline is. EasyToolOnline has the power to “read and change all your data on the websites you visit”, which allows it to manipulate the way that websites are displayed to you. Injecting ads into content is then trivial, and if some of them are malicious, they could cause problems in the future.
But you don’t necessarily need an adware infection to see malicious ads promoting malware and unwanted software. Browser hijackers like EasyToolOnline are frequently distributed using ads on shady websites that accept some aggressive and dishonest ads and allow new windows and tabs to be opened.
How to stop EasyToolOnline Ads
The ads will stop when the EasyToolOnline extension is removed, notifications from it are blocked, and, if any malware was lurking on your system, that’s uninstalled.
You only need to access your browser settings to remove unwanted extensions, like it’s shown in the guide below. There, you can also review your notification permissions and block EasyToolOnline and all the ones that you don’t want to see. But removing adware is a bit more complicated, at least manually; you can look at your installed applications and research them to find out what they are, then uninstall them and remove all the files they left behind — don’t forget to scan your device with an antivirus to make sure that you got rid of all the malware. It’s simpler to use an antivirus program, like Spyhunter, to catch and delete all malicious software.
