Email Anytime is a browser hijacker that uses bundling to install unwanted extensions, changes the browser settings, and overall does things unrelated to the purposes of the extension. It says it lets you “Search and access popular email quick links instantly from your new tab page!”, but it doesn’t say that it replaces your search engine and turns your browser into a marketing platform.

Email Anytime is developed by Eightpoint Technologies Ltd. This company, as well as its sister company Polarity Technologies Ltd, have developed a huge number of clone browser hijackers, and though they are advertised as unique utilities that will make your browsing more tailored to you, they actually all look the same once you install them: a new tab page with a few links that serve as this useful tool, and a search bar that will serve you advertisements.

Speaking of clones, Login Email Now looks like a 2016 version of Email Anytime. Other almost identical hijackers include Search.hemailinboxlogin.com, Email.onesearch.org, search.hemailloginnow.com. None of them are useful for accessing your email beyond providing you with a few links, other than that — they are browser hijackers.

What does Email Anytime do?

Email Anytime is an extension that, most obviously, changes your new tab page to search.searchlen.com. The page now has a search bar, as well as links to websites that Email Anytime developers think that you’d be interested in, and affiliated websites, including news.mynewswire.co.

As a tool that should make it easier for you to log in to your email, Email Anytime is almost useless. There is a link on the new tab page that takes you to myemailsimplified.com, which has links to email login pages for the most popular email providers. The new tab page also has direct links to the email providers. That is it.

Oh, and your search engine has been changed. This has no relation to the advertised function of the Email Anytime extension. However, changing the search engine provides an opportunity for the developers of Email Anytime to profit from advertisements that are injected into the search results. That — advertising to you — is the real purpose of the Email Anytime extension.

Why is it “unwanted”?

On the Chrome Web Store, Email Anytime has thousands of users, but no reviews at all. This shows that the extension is being installed not from the store, but another website. A website designed to bundle Email Anytime with other extensions, specifically SearchEncrypt. Bundling is a strategy used to spread a lot of potentially unwanted software and adware, so just that makes Email Anytime suspicious.

So, is Email Anytime adware? Like with many of these browser hijackers, when I search for something using their search bar, some queries return up to half the results as ads. For example, 8 results, 8 ads. This is excessive. Some ads repeat, making the results page even more unhelpful. On top of that, the results are opened in a new window, which is frustrating.

You could say that ads are just there to pay for the free service that Email Anytime is giving you, after all, advertising is used to offset the costs of developing and maintaining a free product — there is nothing wrong with this. But what is the service that Email Anytime is providing you? A link to the email login site? You can do that yourself very easily, without installing an extension that takes over your browser, changes the settings, and pokes its nose into private things like your search history (the bundled SearchEncrypt extension does have permission to see your browsing history, which is valuable information for advertisers).

Overall, this extension is at best a potentially unwanted application — PUP, if not adware. Email Anytime is mostly just a marketing platform, generating revenue for its developers.

How to remove Email Anytime

Email Anytime can be removed manually, either by accessing your browser settings (both extensions and notification permissions should be changed), or scanning your computer with an antivirus program and removing the unwanted applications.

In fact, you should probably scan your machine with an antivirus either way, to make sure that you didn’t catch any other infections. Spyhunter, or another reputable antivirus program could do the job.

How to remove Email Anytime using Windows Control Panel

Many hijackers and adware like Email Anytime Hijacker install some of their components as regular Windows programs as well as additional software. This part of malware can be uninstalled from the Control Panel. To access it, do the following.
