EmailCheckNow is a newtab virus – a browser extension that replaces the new tab page. It interferes with the user’s browsing by sending their search queries to Yahoo. Besides redirecting searches, EmailCheckNow barely offers any features that would make it worth using. It’s best to remove this hijacker from your browser.
At the same time, I recommend checking your notifications and other browser settings, as well as the files, programs, and extensions for anything suspicious. EmailCheckNow is not very harmful at all, but if it was installed, then some more serious infections might have been close.

Problems with EmailCheckNow
Newtab hijacker
EmailCheckNow is a browser extension. Its proposal is to let you access your email accounts. It enables this by adding five links to five email sites on your new tab page. So, like bookmarks, but worse because you can’t control them.
The rest of EmailCheckNow is dedicated to advertising – logging data about you and redirecting searches to Yahoo. It probably makes money from that, as it sends the search queries typed into EmailCheckNow to a domain that belongs to a company that helps partners share the money made from ads in Yahoo search results.
It looks like EmailCheckNow makes money by taking your search queries and sending them to Yahoo. What do users get out of this?
- Their time is wasted by the redirects.
- Their search history is logged, their privacy – disrespected.
- They don’t get to customize their new tab or choose which search engine is used by EmailCheckNow.
Overall, EmailCheckNow doesn’t appear to offer any value. It’s just an adware infection.
Unwanted installation
There is just no way that people install EmailCheckNow for its amazing features.
More likely, it gets advertised online with deceptive ads on file download sites and alternative search engines like Info.com. It could also come bundled with some free applications (freeware sites are known for spreading junkware by bundling it with legitimate programs) or offered by other browser hijackers. Notification spammers like Y0utube.best also promote newtab viruses.
The truth is, it’s hard to say. EmailCheckNow is still new. Its siblings – MyWeatherFree, Download Converter Free, and MyNewsFree – are also new and their developer, Neefla Technologies Ltd., doesn’t yet have a reputation. Except maybe a reputation for using fake reviews, as both EmailCheckNow and MyNewsFree have over twenty very suspicious reviews on their Chrome Web Store pages.
What I can say is that Emailchecknow.com looks so much like other newtab viruses that the developers must have copied other hijackers intentionally. The similarity of EmailCheckNow to something like Email Pro Hub is uncanny. There’s no way that’s accidental.
How to remove EmailCheckNow
To get rid of Emailchecknow.com from your computer, here are the things to consider:
- EmailCheckNow can be uninstalled like a normal browser extension (instructions at the bottom (in case the Remove button doesn’t work)).
- Other browser extensions should be reviewed. If any of them are suspicious, they should also be removed.
- Browser settings for the default search engine and the new tab should be reviewed.
- Downloads and installations that happened at the time that EmailCheckNow showed up should be checked.
- If you find malicious files, consider which sites you might have downloaded them from.

You can use an antivirus program, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others to scan your computer and look for malicious files, programs, and browser extensions.
