How Erewasano.biz works
Erewasano.biz asks people to subscribe to its notifications
Erewasano.biz is a malicious website. It only does two things:
- spread online and hijack browsers,
- sends ads to hijacked browsers.
Erewasano.biz is advertised online. It appears in pop-ups while browsing certain websites. It appears in a new browser tab and says something like “Please tab the Allow button to continue”.
In reality, Erewasano.biz is asking visitors to allow it to show them notifications. Press Allow to continue is a well-known scam.
Depending on what sites advertise Erewasano.biz, this message can be convincing. For example, when Erewasano.biz is advertised on a file download site, it might look as if you need to “Allow” the site to send you files. Or, if it’s advertised on a free movie streaming site, it might look as if you have to “Allow” the site to show you the video.
Don’t allow notifications from unknown sites. Not even if they insist that you must.
It shows ads via notifications
Once Erewasano.biz is allowed to send messages to the browser, it can start showing ads. It sends notifications to various ads:
- benign online stores,
- gambling sites,
- fake news articles promoting get-rich-quick schemes,
- similar fake articles selling diet pills,
- ads for dubious browser extensions,
- malware disguised as software updates.
Some of the ads that Erewasano.biz relays from iffy advertisers are designed to look like system notifications rather than browser messages. Others are made to look like email, social media, and other trusted notifications, even though they lead to random advertisements.
The goal of the advertisers who use Erewasano.biz to reach their unwitting and unwilling audiences is to get them to click on their ads. If deception needs to be used, these advertisers will use it. And while mainstream websites might refuse to work with malicious advertisers, Erewasano.biz isn’t like that.
