Problems with Falcoware.com
Flagged by antivirus programs
Falcoware.com is a website that makes free games available for users to download without registration. It’s flagged by a few cybersecurity tools as Malicious: Virustotal.com.
The games that Falcoware.com offers for use the same setup program. This program is detected by antivirus programs as Adware, Bundle, and PUP (potentially unwanted program) by a few antivirus scanners: Virustotal.com. That is because Falcoware.com’s installers have a potentially unwanted item embedded as an optional offer.
Spyware bundler
One of the reasons why Falcoware.com’s games get flagged is that they offer RelevantKnowledge. It’s a way to monetize the downloads. RelevantKnowledge pays for successful installations and Falcoware.com shares the money with game developers, as described here: Falcoware.com.
Some of the games that can be downloaded off of Falcoware.com are available on other sites without the adware, though not always for free.
The problem is that RelevantKnowledge is widely considered to be spyware. Yes, it’s very honest about what it is and what it does, but nevertheless, it’s not a good deal for users, especially when it’s bundled with other programs, which often leads to accidental installations.
Sure, you can just refuse the RK installation, but not everyone is careful enough that they will notice the Decline button. Besides, the RK installation offer looks much like it’s part of the game’s installation process. Some people might assume that they have to allow RK if they want to get their game installed. These are the problems with opt-out installation offers.
Deleting RK off of your computer is not always smooth-going, as this spyware likes to leave behind a few executables even after it’s uninstalled.
So, Falcoware.com’s games are detected as potentially unwanted. You might be better off finding another freeware site to download games from. That might be difficult, though. What freeware site doesn’t bundle unwanted software? Softfamous, Rockybytes, and other download sites have the same problems. They don’t necessarily set out to be malicious, but they do end up being somewhat harmful.
Other issues
Another problem with Falcoware.com’s installer is that it adds a bunch of browser shortcuts to the desktop. It didn’t ask for permission to do this.
Shortcuts aren’t dangerous, they’re just completely unnecessary. They open various pages on the Falcoware.com site. If you find that convenient, you can also use browser bookmarks to achieve the same.
Another note – the Falco Launcher is not very stable. At least, mine crashed before I could play the game that I downloaded.
How to remove Falcoware.com bundleware
To uninstall RelevantKnowledge from your computer, you can use antivirus programs like Spyhunter. You can also uninstall RK manually, however, check its folder afterward for any files that may have been left behind. Check other folders on your C drive to make sure no unfamiliar items have been added.
As for the games downloaded from Falcoware.com, their quality is case-by-case. Different developers have made these games. Scan them with an antivirus tool and if a game is flagged, consider removing it. Some
Uninstalling the games does not remove the Falcoware.com shortcuts. To delete them, open File Explorer, the C drive, go to Program Files, find the Falco items, and delete them.
