FileConvertPro is an online file converter that comes in the form of a browser add-on. Although it can help in converting files, its main purpose seems to be to influence how you search the internet. When FileConvertPro is installed, it takes over the new tab page and offers its own search, as well as notification pop-ups. It’s not helpful and can even be considered adware and a browser hijacker.

FileConvertPro is a browser hijacker
FileConvertPro is an add-on for a web browser. It’s meant to help users convert files to and from various formats. Audio and video files, documents, presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs, and other files can be converted just by using the online tools that FileConvertPro provides.
FileConvertPro is also a browser hijacker that changes your new tab page, reads your browsing history, and redirects your internet search queries to go to Yahoo. To hijack a web browser just means to take over its settings. Hijacking is usually done to influence how the person using the browser goes online, which sites they visit, whose ads they see. That is why FileConvertPro takes over your browser’s new tab page.
It logs some data about you, including your device information, your IP, the type of queries you type into FileConvertPro’s search box, and data about you collected from third parties. All this data can be used to, as FileConvertPro’s privacy policy puts it, communicate with you about promotional offers and advertorial content through push notifications.
Fileconvertpro.co does offer notifications to visitors. These are little pop-ups that appear periodically in your web browser.
FileConvertPro is made by HyperConnect Media, the company behind Coupon Club App, Web Gamer World, Search Secure Prime, Daily File Converter, and others. They all promise to do different things (help you find coupons, help you play browser games) but they all do the same thing: replace your new tab page and connect it with Yahoo. Nothing wrong with Yahoo.com, but a lot of browser hijackers use it.
How FileConvertPro gets installed
Do you need an online file converter? When you want to convert files, like a slideshow to a PDF, your first action might be to look for instructions online. After all, it’s easy enough to do – just open it in PowerPoint or your presentation program of choice and export the document as a PDF (relevant post on Support.office.com – this process applies to other programs, too).
However, there are lots of sites trying to sell you something. They’re offering to convert your files for you. Some of these are normal ad-supported sites, some are potentially unwanted programs, and some are browser hijackers like FileConvertPro. And they appear relatively high up in web search results.
You’re especially likely to discover FileConvertPro if your browser was already hijacked. Do you ever have to deal with Zapmeta, Izito, Info.com, Kensaq, or other strange search engines? Because seeing them regularly is a very clear symptom that you have a malicious browser extension installed.
FileConvertPro gets advertised online, but it can also get bundled with freeware. It may appear an optional offer during another program’s installation. Optional offers usually get installed by default, it’s very frustrating if you accidentally miss one.
How to remove FileConvertPro
You can remove FileConvertPro manually, but it’s advisable to use an antivirus program to scan your whole computer for malware, including bad browser extensions. We recommend Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, but any antivirus app that you’re comfortable with and that detects PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). Then, if any suspicious programs are detected, consider removing them.
As for getting rid of FileConvertPro, you can do it in browser settings – the instructions are in the following section, they’re a little different for each web browser.
