FileSendSuite is a browser extension that may or may not have been installed in your browser with your knowledge and permission. This add-on uses shady distribution tactics to get installed on as many computers as possible and acts like mild adware. FileSendSuite isn’t very dangerous, but it does hijack some browser settings and can be annoying.

Its hijacker behavior has caused FileSendSuite to be detected as adware by antivirus tools. That’s unfortunate – sharing files online is very useful and being able to do that quickly can come in very handy. However, FileSendSuite is just not a good tool for this task. The features of FileSendSuite include:
- Replacing the homepage in the browser.
- The homepage has links to websites for sharing files.
FileSendSuite is not a very useful extension. If all you needed were quick links, you could just save your most useful file sharing sites on your homepage yourself. Most browsers allow users to add custom links on their home page, after all. FileSendSuite has had about as little work put into it as InternetSpeedTracker, MyTelevisionHQ, and other Mindspark extensions had. They don’t really offer any useful features, even if their descriptions make it seem like they do.

Problems with the FileSendSuite hijacker
Distribution
First of all, a problem with FileSendSuite is the way it’s distributed. It seems like most people don’t install it voluntarily. Sometimes users insist that the hijacker downloaded itself. Most likely, FileSendSuite is installed by:
- Redirect ads
- Bundled with other extensions
- Bundled with freeware
The FileSendSuite hijacker gets installed thanks to deceptive tactics and it makes it onto people’s computers without them knowing about it or consenting to it. For example, if you download a free program from some software sharing site, there’s a good chance that it comes bundled with other software, like FileSendSuite and other search extensions. These additional offers are installed at the same time as the main software, although some malicious ones might deliberately delay their own appearance for a few days to confuse users. Users are warned in the setup somewhere, but those warnings are hidden among boring text and options that nobody reads. It’s deliberate – the more installations, even accidental ones, the more users FileSendSuite gets.
Ads for FileSendSuite appear online without you downloading any freeware, too. These ads tend to be delivered by notifications spammers like Bigclicker.me and published on various not-exactly-legal websites, like pirating sites. Sometimes, ads for FileSendSuite and other hijackers trick people who are trying to download files by making their ads look like download buttons.
Hijacking
FileSendSuite can see what you search for on certain websites, which might expose your search history to the extension’s developers. The add-on also reads your browsing history and looks at what other extensions you’ve installed. These permissions aren’t unusual for an ad-supported extension, but FileSendSuite doesn’t really make it obvious that that’s how it makes money (unless you actually read its privacy policy).
Another issue with FileSendSuite is that it replaces the homepage. A good, modern extension doesn’t need to do that – it’s actually inconvenient for users. But it does make it easier for FileSendSuite to recommend the MyWay.com search engine.
Tracking your search, hijacking the browser – it’s all the same as other newtab viruses. FileSendSuite is not there to help you transfer your files – it’s there to make money from advertising.
How to uninstall FileSendSuite
Getting rid of FileSendSuite might be as simple as uninstalling the hijacker like a normal extension. Don’t stop with FileSendSuite, though. Go to your browser settings and look at your list of extensions that you have. Look at their permissions and think about whether you trust them with those powers. After all, having an extension that can access data on all the websites you visit is kind of like inviting a stranger to observe you browsing – they have to be trustworthy.
If FileSendSuite refuses to go away or if you suspect that a malicious program might have downloaded it, or if you just want to check if your computer is infected with malware, scan it with an antivirus scanner, for example, Combo Cleaner (Mac), or SpyHunter (PC). These programs should find not only malware, but also some potentially unwanted software that is suspicious, if not outright malicious.
