Fortnite malware on Windows
Scammers have created websites and apps for stealing players’ Fortnite and Epic accounts. They also created Windows viruses for infecting computers and hijacking internet traffic. The CEO of RainwayApp Andrew Sampson discovered that these fraudsters would make Youtube videos ‘proving’ that their Fortnite cheat works – but when people downloaded it, it would set up a proxy to steal the internet traffic, then fill the victim’s browser with ads. The whole computer would get compromised.
Even people who don’t play Fortnite are vulnerable to this virus. If you share a computer with someone who installed a Fortnite virus, your personal information is in danger and you might get pop-ups and redirects in your browser.
Fortnite hacks may not be malicious on their own (although they will get you banned, deservedly), but they let third-party advertisers inject their deals, offers as pop-ups, banners, redirects, and you can be sure that at least 1 out of 10 of these ads will have a malicious parasite hiding and waiting for you to click on it.
Even ransomware has infected Fortnite aimbots. You could lose all of your personal files if you used that.
In summation, using Fortnite hacks will slow down your browser, it will constantly crash, the antivirus will stop working, some files won’t even open anymore, and on top of that, your Fortnite account won’t receive any promised V-bucks, will get banned, if not worse – hacked.
Fortnite virus on Android
There’s also Android malware, where malicious apps are disguised as Fortnite installations or updates. This is made worse by Fortnite’s recent removal from the Play Store (following its removal from the App Store on the iOS). Now, people might not be sure where to get the official Fortnite app. There are a lot of shady sites offering Fortnite APKs that are outdated, infected, or bundled with malware.
Fake Fortnite apps were able to access accounts that were logged in on the phone, record audio and video, take pictures, write logs of any action, gather device data and delete it, read keystrokes and work as a coin miner after running CoinHive Javascript. Some victims claimed that hackers were able to spend hundreds of dollars using compromised phones for calls and messages to random numbers. More about the malicious Apps on Zscaler.com.
Only download Fortnite from the official Epicgames.com site to avoid Fortnite viruses.
Fortnite scam websites
Fortnite is a competitive game, so it might be tempting to search for ways to get ahead, even if those ways are illegitimate. And this is just another way that scammers get people. If you search for Fortnite hacks and cheats, the results will lead to malicious sites steal personal information.
You are told to put in your account info, then to verify that you’re not a bot. You’re given tasks to complete, including signing up for shady media subscription sites, solving clickbait quizzes, dealing with fake virus warnings, etc.
Indeed, some of these fake Fortnite hacks can be almost as dangerous as Windows or Android malware:
- Fake Fortnite hack generators ask you to type in your account name and password. Scammers can take your credentials and use them or sell them.
- The fake Fortnite hacks ask you to type in your phone number. It can also be stolen and used by scammers later.
- They ask you to download shady apps to get your “free V-Bucks”. Those apps could be malicious.
- Fortnite cheats sites waste your time by redirecting you to finish clickbait quizzes (they make money off of the ads).
The fake Fortnite hacks do not actually give your account any advantage. No free V-bucks, god mode, aimbots – nothing.
You can find Fortnite scams simply by searching for Fortnite hacks with terms like “Free V-Bucks”, “Fortnite free account”, “New hack”, “Fortnite hack”, and others are used by the scam sites.
The promos appear as PDF documents, text posts, forum posts, store listings, video descriptions, etc. Surprisingly, links to fake Fortnite hacks are sometimes posted on totally legitimate sites, including VisualStudio, Brillonline, and even Unesco (luckily, Unesco removed it quickly). Most likely, they are spread by bots.
In addition, the Fortnite V-Bucks hack sites are pushed by browser add-ons. These “Free Vbux” and “Free V Bucks” extensions do nothing but open one of the websites mentioned earlier.
Just like the scam sites, these add-ons don’t give you any V-Bucks. They just have you complete surveys, install apps, and subscribe to paid services.
How do you get infected by a Fortnite virus?
As you may guess, many users fell for the free V-bucks generator and the fake game apps and downloaded them voluntarily. Some visited scamming websites like ‘Fortnite special’ that contained scripts and redirections to either other infected pages or a page that would download the virus automatically. There is also the possibility that some of your friends got infected and their accounts were used to send you a malicious link and you clicked on it and also got compromised.
No matter which way did it happen it just proves that you must always be aware of your safety online and to only download the game from the official Epic games website – Epicgames.com. There are no free cheats or secret ways to gain more coins, therefore, going to disreputable sources is only going to result in a Fortnite virus.
How to remove Fortnite malware
Since Fortnite viruses can infect both Android and Windows, you could run a scan with a malware removal tool like Spyhunter or Malwarebytes. Both programs have computer and smartphone versions.

How to delete Fortnite malware yourself
You can also remove fake Fortnite apps and hacks manually. Uninstall all suspicious programs from the Control Panel and remove unusual extensions from your browsers. To see which one is causing the issue, you can disable each one and see if issues persist. If the situation after turning off the add-on gets better that means it is the one that needs to be removed. You can learn how to remove them by reading our step-by-step explanations below.
And for Android, the best manual removal would be just to uninstall all suspicious apps and only use the official Epic app.
The biggest concern is if your data was leaked. If you typed your real Epic password for a fake Fortnite hack generator, change that password immediately so that it can’t be used by cybercriminals. Only use your Fortnite password when logging in to Epic’s site.
