Getquickdirections.com is a new tab replacer that comes with the Get Quick Directions browser extension. It is supposed to help you find directions in online maps. Instead, Getquickdirections.com promotes Yahoo.com and tries to hijack your notifications. As for the map directions, Getquickdirections.com designates that functionality to legitimate and unrelated sites. Get Quick Directions is essentially adware and it should be removed.

The problems with Getquickdirections.com
Getquickdirections.com is a little website that has a search box in the middle, a few links to popular websites below it, and a few links to map sites at the top. Getquickdirections.com links to Google Maps and to Mapquest, neither of which have anything to do with Getquickdirections.com.
Getquickdirections.com is part of the Get Quick Directions extension. Browser extensions are little items that can be installed on a web browser to enhance it and add features. Get Quick Directions is about finding driving directions – and those two links to Google Maps and Mapquest are literally the entirety of Getquickdirections.com’s map functionality.
Now for the additional features:
- The search box in the middle of Getquickdirections.com goes to Search.yahoo.com – a staple of browser hijackers.
- Get Quick Directions replaces your new tab page with Getquickdirections.com and this is totally unjustified. There’s no need to replace the new tab.
- Getquickdirections.com asks you to allow it to send notifications to your screen. These notifications are used to promote ads.
- Get Quick Directions reads your browsing history (though not your search queries).
Overall, Get Quick Directions is a pretty low-quality browser extension. Its map feature is a couple of links – something that you can achieve without any extensions in just a few clicks (How to create an internet favorite). And yet, it redirects your searches and shows you notifications with advertisements. Getquickdirections.com is just a waste of people’s time.
How hijackers get installed
Getquickdirections.com was created by Innover Group, same as Findmanualsnow.com, Easygamestab.com, Shield My Searches, and others. They’re usually lacking in features and so they have to use dishonest, deceptive installation techniques to find users:
- Search engine advertisements that parrot your search query. They then tell you to install the extension to get access to the results.
- Ads for Getquickdirections.com appear on regular websites.
- Get Quick Directions gets bundled with free programs on software download sites. It is an optional offer but if you are careless about the settings, they can be installed and you might not even realize it until after the fact.
The deceptive search engine ads tend to only appear in alternative search engines, like Izito, Zapmeta, and similar ones. They appear in people’s browsers thanks to adware infections. This means that people whose computers are already infected and who get ads injected into their webpages are more likely to be attacked by more malware.
If you don’t use an anti-malware program with a web filter or an ad-blocker when you browse the internet, and if you then go to shady and unsafe websites, you probably get exposed to a lot of deceptive and very aggressive ads. Be skeptical of such ads: the more aggressive they are, the more likely they are to be dangerous. Examples of ads that you should be careful of:
- They open without you clicking on an ad. This is more the fault of the website that is publishing those ads. In some cases, it means that the site has been infected with malicious code.
- The ads try to scare you with claims that viruses were found on your computer or that your OS/browser/media player is outdated. These warnings are fake and the files they download are malicious.
- They automatically download a file without you initiating it. Immediately delete the file.
- The ads look like “Start” or “Download” buttons. These try to trick you to install the software they’re promoting unintentionally.
Visiting a malicious site isn’t necessarily enough to infect your computer; just close the site and you should be okay. But if you installed Get Quick Directions by accident, you should check your computer – maybe there are other potentially dangerous programs and apps that you don’t know about.
