Gogogosearch is a browser add-on that offers some useful features – but ends up behaving a bit like a browser hijacker: replacing your home page, replacing your default search engine, and reading your data. Although Gogogosearch is not dangerous, you should consider if you really want it to be installed.

How Gogogosearch changes your browser
It takes over the home page
Gogogosearch offers to help you search the web more easily and to let you navigate to your favorite websites.
Personally, I don’t see how Gogogosearch is unique or useful – it offers exactly the same features that you get by using the default Chrome new tab: the ability to change your background picture and manage the links pinned to the page.
Once installed, Gogogosearch also replaces your default search engine – the site that delivers your search results. It replaces it with Search.gogogosearch.com, which leads to Yahoo.com. Gogogosearch can be considered a Yahoo redirect virus.
Overall, it seems like using Gogogosearch gives no extra features to the browser. You get more control, customization, and privacy if you don’t use this extension.
It logs user data
Another thing that Gogogosearch does is of user data:
- Technical data like what other programs you’ve installed, your IP, your ISP, cookies, etc.
- Usage data such as what sites you visit, what content you see, which advertisements you click on, and what queries you search online.
There are more details in Gogogosearch’s privacy policy. Luckily, some of the information that Gogogosearch collects is considered to be personally identifying, which means that it is protected in many countries from being abused.
Gogogosearch’s goal is likely to make money, which is done through ads and affiliate search links. There’s a website for an online monetization and advertising company Yolik whose developers share their address with Gogogosearch’s developers, potentially showing a link between these two sites. If Gogogosearch is connected to an advertising company, it would not be surprising. Other browser hijackers, like Searchworm.com, are also made by monetization companies.
How Gogogosearch spreads
Gogogosearch is advertised online as an add-on helping you search the internet “as fast as possible”. You can see ads for it while browsing the web and when downloading files from the internet. Ads for Gogogosearch lead to the Chrome Web Store where this add-on can be installed.
The websites that promote Gogogosearch are not detected as malicious or suspicious by antivirus programs, so your malware protection programs would not have blocked them. But an ad blocker might have helped.
Gogogosearch might also be found in the installers of free programs, included as an optional offer. If you want to avoid such add-ons being installed without your permission, you should be very careful when installing free programs: select advanced/custom installation settings, review every setup page, and always deselect or decline freeware offers.
How to remove Gogogosearch
If you want to remove Gogogosearch, you can uninstall the extension from the extension area in the upper right of your browser or from your settings. Also, check your recently installed programs and browser extensions – see if there are any items that are suspicious.
It would be helpful to use an anti-malware program, like Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others, to scan your device and check for other potentially unwanted programs so that you can consider if you want to keep those programs.
Review the settings of your browser: your default search engine, new tab page, and home page. Set them to your preferred websites.
