The Govome virus is a browser hijacker that once installed replaces infected computer’s home page, default search engine and new tab page with its own. The application causes redirections to govome.com, Govome.inspsearch.com, Govome2.inspsearch.com, etc. Usually these unwanted changes happen after installing freeware or shareware bundled with third party toolbars. The latter make changes to all of Internet browsers on the infected computer: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Govome search engine is owned by a Hong Kong company called Big Journey Technology Co.,Ltd. It provides a customized web search of web, images, videos and news. It uses search engine aggregator infospace.com and collects advertisement money. The site is hosted on Baidu (chinese search provider) cloud.
Although the redirections caused by Govome are not of malicious origin, it is recommended to remove the application causing them for several reasons. First of all the search engine itself does not add any value to the search one wants to perform. Moreover, it limits the results displayed mixing some advertised links among them. A search tool user never knows if she clicked on a link that matched her search criteria or on the one promoted. You should also be aware of the fact that some of the promoted links or popup advertisements might be malicious or lead to corrupted web pages. It increases a risk of infecting your computer with viruses and Trojans.
We recommend uninstalling the Govome virus, especially if it was added to your computer without your consent. For those that are not very computer savvy, it is safer and quicker to remove this browser hijacker automatically using antimalware tools like Spyhunter, StopZilla or another reliable anti-malware program.
