Is Hmysocialtab.net useful?
Not really.
Ads for My Social Tab promise to help users access their social media faster. All it does is make Hmysocialtab.net your home page and your new tab page. Every time you open a new tab page in your browser with the plus button at the top, Hmysocialtab.net shows up. This means that any time that you want to access My Social Tab’s features, you need to open a new tab page. It’s so intrusive.
Not that Hmysocialtab.net has any features worth using. There’s a toolbar at the top of Hmysocialtab.net that has links to a few social media sites and that’s all. And if your favorite social media site isn’t on the list, there’s nothing for you to do – Hmysocialtab.net can’t be changed by users.
All the other links on Hmysocialtab.net are for related and promoted sites. Hmysocialtab.net’s search box leads to Safebrowser Yahoo Search results, which is Yahoo but with additional ads. In my experience, using Yahoo through Hmysocialtab.net added between two and three ads to the search results. Ads everywhere. And to improve the advertising efforts, Hmysocialtab.net collects data about each user’s browsing habits.
I consider Hmysocialtab.net to be harmful to users. It wastes time, exposes users to a lot of ads, and doesn’t help in any way.
How to avoid browser hijackers
If you wish to access social media quickly or for other improvements for your web browsing, don’t rush to install browser extensions. They usually get too much access to your data, which is bad for privacy. Besides, some extensions add malicious features once they get a certain number of users, so even an old browser extension can suddenly turn evil.
Check first if you can use any of your browser’s built-in features to achieve your goals. For example, My Social Tab promises to give you quick access to social media sites but you can achieve that by either using bookmarks or pinned links on your default new tab.
Even if you don’t know the social media sites exactly, you can find them by searching for them. There are a lot of resources even for beginner users, like Computerhope.com.
If you have problems with ads and search results leading you to hijackers like Hmysocialtab.net, to offers to download shady software, or to unrelated searches, then there is probably a malicious browser extension (other than My Social Tab) installed. Find and remove it. If needed, disable every single extension in your browser until the bad ads and redirects stop showing up.
Then, follow the instructions at the bottom to set your default search engine to a reliable webpage, such as Google.com, DuckDuckGo.com, Bing.com, or another reputable website.
Avoid Ask.com, Myway.com, and any “privacy” sites like Startpage.com because although they deliver accurate results, some of the ads are really deceptive and lead to more infections just like Hmysocialtab.net.
Consider using an anti-malware program or at least an ad-blocker to block malicious websites. Hmysocialtab.net is not the only browser hijacker out there: Hidemyhistory.co, MySocialShortcut, Hemailprohub.com – there’s an uncountable number of malicious browser extensions out there.
