Herosearcher.com is a search-hijacking website that spreads via browser extensions. Generally, Herosearcher.com causes Bing.com to return search results. Overall, it’s not necessarily a malicious site, but it’s also unhelpful and, in fact, useless. You can stop Herosearcher.com from interfering with your searches by find and removing the add-on that is redirecting your search queries to Herosearcher.com.

What is Herosearcher.com?
Search redirect site
Herosearcher.com is a search engine-like site that allows you to type in a query, then sends it off to a real search engine, such as Bing.com or DuckDuckGo.com (but, for some reason, not Google.com).
Usually, sites like that fall into two categories:
- Adware and spyware. Sites that collect your search queries and some technical data for use in targeted advertising. They do this as a way of getting around traffic encryption used by major search engines.
- New tab sites. These sites are created to enhance your new tab in some way. Some are minimalistic and have nothing but a search box, some have a pretty background picture, others offer a ton of utilities, such as a bookmark manager and a search engine selector.
Herosearcher.com is certainly not in the latter category. So, it must be the former, then.
According to Herosearcher.com’s privacy policy, it’s supported by third-parties (Bing). It seems like the only function of Herosearcher.com is to get more people to use Bing.com.
Installed unintentionally
The reason that I became suspicious of Herosearcher.com is the way it’s advertised:
- It’s promoted on streaming (pirating) sites through unexpected pop-ups.
- It’s advertised by sites that are hijacked to redirect visitors.
- Herosearcher.com is advertised deceptively as a “standard security check”.
By clicking the button below, you’ll go through a standard security check.
All this means that people who end up on Herosearcher.com were not looking for it. They likely do not eve recognize Herosearcher.com as being advertised. Rather, they might believe it to be a “security check”. This can lead to unintentional installations.
This is almost enough to call Herosearcher.com a trojan.
One of many hijackers
Herosearcher.com is remarkably similar to a few other sites: Searchingssector.com, Privacysearching.com, Searchmarvelous.com. These sites started getting more popular in the last few months. It’s estimated that the advertising networks that promote these sites are the likes of Adcash and Adventure Feeds.
It’s estimated that Bing.com gets a few percent of its traffic from alternative search engines and new tab replacers, such as Charming-tab.com. There’s nothing wrong with having affiliates (if that’s what’s going on), but it’s unfortunate that some of Bing’s affiliates, like the people behind Herosearcher.com, use deceptive tactics to spread.
How to remove Herosearcher.com
There has to be a browser extension that is responsible for letting Herosearcher.com appear on your screen. You can find and remove it manually or you can use an anti-malware program, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others.
The instructions for removing browser add-ons are at the bottom. But you need to find which extension is related to Herosearcher.com, first.
Add-ons related to Herosearcher.com tend to be named “Safe Search”, “Protected Web Browsing”, that sort of thing.
Normally, you could see which extension hijacked your search by going to your browser’s settings, Search engine, and looking at which extension is controlling it. But in Herosearcher.com’s case, this is not as simple. Many search-hijacking extensions only require permission to read your browsing history – one of the least suspicious permissions.
You could go to the section in your browser’s settings where all the extensions are listed (Settings -> Extensions) and look at what you have installed. Check the details of each extension by clicking the Details tab. If one has Herosearcher.com mentioned, remove it.
If that doesn’t fix things, then just disable all of your extensions one-by-one until Herosearcher.com stops showing up. Then remove the hijacker.
