History Organizer is a browser hijacker that causes occasional redirects to Historyorganizer.xyz. It takes your search query and sends it to Bing or another search site. Also, it might open Historyorganizer.xyz in brief pop-ups when visiting new websites.
While History Organizer isn’t very dangerous, it disrespects your privacy and it’s annoying. Not to mention its relations to other malicious browser hijackers. It should be removed as soon as possible.

What is History Organizer
Search hijacker
You may have noticed Historyorganizer.xyz show up in your address bar from time to time. Periodically, your search results get returned by Bing. Even if you don’t use Bing and even when your search engine is set to a different website.
This can happen if you have a certain browser add-on installed: History Organizer. Once installed, History Organizer has a chance to redirect your searches to Historyorganizer.xyz. Here’s how it works:
- You type a search query into your address bar.
- History Organizer detects that and takes the address to analyze. It can do that because it can read your browsing history.
- Then, it strips your search query out of the search address and saves it.
- It opens Historyorganizer.xyz with your query and user ID attached.
- Historyorganizer.xyz opens Bing or another search site with the results for your query.
- History Organizer closes your old tab. It does it so quickly that you don’t even notice two tabs being open at once.
History Organizer recognizes searches on Google, Bing, and Yahoo. If you use another search engine, you can avoid the Historyorganizer.xyz redirects.
I want to note that the Historyorganizer.xyz redirects happen only occasionally (which made testing them really frustrating).
Search history manager
Oh, also, History Organizer saves your search history and displays it if you click on its extension icon. That’s its feature – helping you browse your search history.
A feature that already exists in all major browsers, by the way. If you want to check your history, that’s very easy:
- On Windows, press the keyboard buttons Ctrl and H at the same time.
- On macOS, use the Cmd+Y combination.
You can search your history, open the previously visited pages, and delete individual entries. No search hijacking necessary.
And if you want to manage your search history as it’s saved in your Google account, you can do that, too – Support.google.com.
How History Organizer gets installed
With such a generic name, History Organizer can be found online if you just search for a history organizer. But some people might not have installed it voluntarily.
I’ve noticed that some extensions that are related to Historyorganizer.xyz, such as Hyper-app.xyz (Hyper Search) and Toptabengine.xyz, are advertised online:
- On “free” movie and tv show streaming sites.
- By video and audio converters.
- On other file download sites.
Sites like that often show intrusive ads and even deliberately misleading ads. If a site has ever asked you to install a browser extension to do something very basic, it could well have been a misleading advertisement.
So, it’s possible to install Historyorganizer.xyz without meaning to, accidentally.
By the way, after having been installed for a while, History Organizer makes its extension icon nearly invisible. This used to be a tactic used by malicious extensions to hide, back when Google Chrome would display the installed extensions to the side of your address bar. Invisible icons look like empty space. It’s as if there’s no extension there!
Now, though, Chrome put extensions into the extension area – the puzzle button to the right of the address bar. All you need to do to find Historyorganizer.xyz is to click the puzzle button.
How to remove History Organizer
Uninstalling History Organizer is simple:
- In your browser, open the Extensions area. It’s the puzzle button in the upper right.
- Press the button to the right of History Organizer.
- In the drop-down menu, select “Remove”.
I recommend checking all of your extensions. Do you use them regularly? Do you know how they make money? Do you trust their developers? It’s important to only allow trusted extensions as they have the potential to be very powerful. Look at Historyorganizer.xyz hijacking your searches with just the single permission to “read your browsing history”.
You can employ an antivirus app (Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, or another program that you trust) and check your computer for unwanted items. Then, if anything is detected, delete it.
