How to remove Hprintmyrecipes.com
Hprintmyrecipes.com replaces the new tab page. It is locked down thanks to the Print My Recipes extension. To get back your new tab from Hprintmyrecipes.com, find and remove malicious browser extensions, including Print My Recipes. The instructions are at the bottom but, in short, you need to open the browser, go to Settings, go to Extensions, see Print My Recipes, and click the Remove button.
Use an anti-malware app to scan your computer for other malware and potentially unwanted apps. You can also look for them manually, but anti-malware programs (such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others) tend to be pretty fast ab accurate. Some anti-malware programs can also remove Hprintmyrecipes.com and other browser hijackers automatically.
Block web push notifications if they’re being used to deliver daily ads to your browser. Printmyrecipes.com offers notifications, as does Hprintmyrecipes.com, and use them to promote other browser extensions. Removing Print My Recipes does not stop these notifications. You need to change browser settings to stop unwanted pop-ups:
- Check your notification settings:
- Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- New Edge – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Firefox – open Settings, Preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
- Find sites that are sending unwanted notifications, press the button next to each of them and then click “Block”.
Block notifications from Hprintmyrecipes.com, Printmyrecipes.com, as well as Totalrecipesnetwork.com, Nationalweatheragency.org, Myemailcentral.com, and others. Or check out this post on how to completely block web push notifications.
How Print My Recipes changes the browser
Once installed, Print My Recipes takes over the browser with Hprintmyrecipes.com and gets access to the browsing history.
Officially, Hprintmyrecipes.com is meant to provide links to popular recipe sites. It does, kind of: Hprintmyrecipes.com provides a small list of ten food and dining-related sites. Many of the links that Hprintmyrecipes.com features most prominently are for email, weather, and news sites that are owned by Hprintmyrecipes.com’s creators and are, in fact, clickbait – sites where the ads are the main product and the content is secondary.
It doesn’t help that Hprintmyrecipes.com replaces the new tab page and, on it, puts a search box that leads to Yahoo.com regardless of your default search engine preferences. Hprintmyrecipes.com does not provide tools to change what search engine it promotes.
Replacing the new tab page for no good reason (it could just use an extension pop-up instead), promoting only one search engine, linking to a bunch of clickbait sites – Hprintmyrecipes.com is bad for user experience. It is adware.
Unsurprisingly, Hprintmyrecipes.com is made by Eightpoint Technologies, just like Hfindmyrecipe.net, Tastyonlinerecipestab.com, and others.
Ways in which Hprintmyrecipes.com spreads
Hprintmyrecipes.com hijacks the browser when Print My Recipes gets installed. This happens in a few ways:
- Printmyrecipes.com gets advertised online, on recipe sites and on social media sites. Arguably, Printmyrecipes.com uses deceptive design which leads to some accidental installations.
- Ads for Hprintmyrecipes.com may be found in the results of alternative search engines, like Hidemyhistory.co. Such search engines spread through deceptive browser extensions, too.
- Print My Recipes may come bundled with some free programs as an optional offer. Bundling is notorious for being abused to spread malware.
- Sometimes, browser extensions are bundled together. Careless or trusting users may be tricked to install multiple extensions without wanting to.
Print My Recipes has over eighty thousand users on the Chrome Store, while Hprintmyrecipes.com gets hundreds of thousands of visits. Meanwhile, the only content online about Hprintmyrecipes.com that I found (besides instructions for removing it) was about Print My Recipes spamming people's browsers with ads. This way, even people who accidentally install Print My Recipes and then quickly remove it are still being abused. Their screen space is still used to promote junk sites, some of which lead to scams and malware.
