How to remove Htemplatesdiscovery.com
Delete unwanted browser extensions
If your browser is opening Htemplatesdiscovery.com in its home page and new tab page, then there’s a browser extension – Templates Discovery Tab – that is installed on your browser that needs to be removed.
When I installed Templates Discovery Tab, I was also offered Hide My History and My Search Finder, so check for those and other extensions that you did not intentionally install. Remove them, too.
Htemplatesdiscovery.com and other dangerous browser extensions can be detected by anti-malware programs, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and others.
You can also find bad extensions yourself. They tend to have intrusive permissions, such as replacing your new tab page, changing your default search engine, and read and change all your data on the websites that you visit (Htemplatesdiscovery.com doesn’t do the latter, but Hide My History does). You can check the details of your extensions in browser settings as described in the last section of this post, where the instructions for each browser are posted.
Block notification spam
Htemplatesdiscovery.com, Templatesdiscovery.com, and related sites offer visitors to accept notifications. Allowing notifications from these sites is a bad idea: they are used to show ads in the corner of the browser. Notifications need to be blocked separately form uninstalling Templates Discovery Tab.
- Access your notification settings:
- Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Edge (Chromium) – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Firefox – open Settings, Preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
- Scroll until you see a list of “Allowed” sites. This list might include Htemplatesdiscovery.com, Templatesdiscovery.com, and other addresses.
- Press the button next to each of them and then click “Block”. This prevents them from showing new pop-ups in your browser.
Never allow notifications from unknown sites. There are many websites that lie about why you should allow their notifications (“Click Allow to prove that you are not a robot”, “Press Allow to activate your browser playback”, etc.) and then do nothing but spam your browser with ads.
Problems with Templates Discovery Tab
Unhelpful changes to the browser
When the installer for Templates Discovery Tab is scanned by anti-malware programs, many flag it as a potentially unwanted program (Virustotal.com). And that is deserved: Htemplatesdiscovery.com is bad for users:
- Htemplatesdiscovery.com is supposed to help people find popular templates from their new tab page and there are a lot of such links. However, it is not a good practice to take over the user’s new tab to post these links. It would be more user-friendly to put those links in an extension pop-up.
- Among the template links, Htemplatesdiscovery.com also features advertisements and clickbait links.
- There’s a search box in the middle of Htemplatesdiscovery.com to search the internet, however, it only goes to Yahoo.
- When Templates Discovery Tab is installed, it offers other browser extensions that take over your search engine settings. Now, searches from the address bar also go to Yahoo.
- Htemplatesdiscovery.com collects data about each user for the benefit of advertisers.
Overall, Htemplatesdiscovery.com’s links to template sites are an afterthought; the main function is to promote ads, link to related sites, and collect data on users. When you install Templates Discovery Tab, it really restricts a lot of browser features, like the search engine and the new tab page. This can really hurt the user experience.
Unwanted installation
Ads on various websites, as well as search engine ads on sites like Fastquicksearch.com can lead to the Templatesdiscovery.com site which then leads to Templates Discovery Tab’s installation. These can be unintentional when the ads that lead to Templatesdiscovery.com are misleading. Think of the ads that are disguised as download buttons: they are only there to trick people to download malware and to visit malicious sites.
Freeware installers are also possible culprits. If you download free apps and programs from shady sites, you might get them bundled with junkware. And if you don’t install them by using expert or advanced settings and carefully deselecting every single optional offer, then you might end up with browser hijackers, adware, cleaners, optimizers, and other scam software.
That’s why it’s advisable to scan your computer with a security program. If Htemplatesdiscovery.com was installed, was any other junkware, too?
