Problems with Ibrowsersearch.com

Browser hijackers

Ibrowsersearch.com looks like a basic web search engine. A web search engine searches the internet for information that fits your query and returns the most relevant results. Search engines are usually ad-supported and show ads with search results, often labeled “Ad”. In its about page, Ibrowsersearch.com is claimed to be a global provider of search results advertising.

Ibrowsersearch.com is a Google custom search engine. Anyone can use the custom search engine service to create their own engine. The idea here is to let people create specialized engines and to develop cool new functions, but Ibrowsersearch.com has no new features and lacks even some basic stuff, like image search. This makes me doubt that anyone uses this engine because they want to. More likely, all its visitors were tricked into installing some dubious browser extension that now keeps redirecting them to Ibrowsersearch.com.

A browser extension is a program that changes slightly how your browser works and, though a lot of them are very useful, some are malicious (those are often called “hijackers”). Ibrowsersearch.com is an alternative search engine used by some browser hijackers, such as Games Lol, to fill your search results with ads.

The symptoms of an Ibrowsersearch.com hijacking include:

  • your search results returning in Ibrowsersearch.com,
  • being redirected when trying to use other search engines,
  • ads in your search results often opening yet another search engine results page,
  • irrelevant search results ads.

Browser extensions are very easy to install quickly and they can have a lot of power over your browser. So, unwanted installation is common with browser hijackers. If Ibrowsersearch.com appeared in your browser unexpectedly, you can suspect a browser hijacker having been installed.

Privacy

Is Ibrowsersearch.com safe? Its privacy policy doesn’t explain whether it collects data like search queries of each user. It just keeps saying that no personal information is stored. Which is not the question. Anonymous data is not necessary for targeted ads to work and besides, it can be de-anonymized in some cases.

The third-party ads that appear in Ibrowsersearch.com’s search results – and there are a lot of them – aren’t bound by its policy anyway. For example, Zapmeta (a frequently advertised site on Ibrowsersearch.com) does use your information for marketing purposes and may share it with their advertising partners.

So, a lot of ads, dishonest installation, and no useful features for the users. Ibrowsersearch.com is not a good search engine. And it’s not the only one – for example, Mychromesearch.com is another popular member of this family of alternative search engines.

How to remove Ibrowsersearch.com from your browser

Since Ibrowsersearch.com redirects are most likely caused by a browser hijacker, you need to look at your browser extensions. Although, if multiple browsers are all suffering from the redirects, then the issue is caused by some malware on your computer.

To find the hijacker, open your browser and disable every extension. Or just open an Incognito window, where extensions are usually disabled. Did the Ibrowsersearch.com redirects stop? Then, one of your extensions is responsible. Enable them one-by-one till the redirects come back. Then, you’ll know which extension is the Ibrowsersearch.com hijacker and you can remove it.

The bad extension will probably be one that controls your search engine. But it might instead have permission to replace your new tab page or to change Google.com and other popular search sites.

If you suspect that there’s malware on your computer, it can be found by letting an anti-malware program, such as SpyHunter for Windows or  Combo Cleaner for Mac OS, scan it. They’re programs and applications that were installed at around the time when the Ibrowsersearch.com redirects started and they may be used to reinstall browser hijackers when they are removed or to stop them from being removed.
