InboxNow is a newtab hijacker related to MyWay. With InboxNow installed, your browser’s home page is changed to one by MyWay, your search results are delivered by MyWay, and some other browser extensions may get installed.
InboxNow is not malware but it is potentially unwanted. Its features are not great, it works to advertise more than it works to help users access email. So, it might be best to uninstall InboxNow.

Problems with InboxNow
Replaces the new tab
InboxNow is a browser extension (a sort of app meant to extend your internet browser’s features) that promotes itself as helping you access your email accounts quickly.
What InboxNow really does is replace your home and new tab page (such as by pressing the plus ‘+’ button in the top of your browser). So, whether you were using your browser’s default new tab page, your search page, or a pretty wallpaper extension, InboxNow replaces that.
Displays ads
Once InboxNow is on your screen, it offers a search box for MyWay.com, an advertisement underneath it, and a row of links to sites ranging from AOL and Gmail (hey, those are email providers!) to Amazon and Couponalert.
The non-email links that InboxNow features appear to be partner links. It is possible that InboxNow gets paid for referring you and other InboxNow users to these sites. Those links are basically ads. Is InboxNow turning your homepage into an advertising platform?
Lacks features
And there’s nothing wrong with InboxNow making money, everyone needs to do it. But InboxNow is a terrible extension. It offers almost no customization. Most likely, it’s worse than the default new tab page that your web browser offers. At least on some versions of InboxNow, there doesn’t seem to be a way to add your own email links.
Look into bookmarks or into pinning links to your new tab page. These features can offer the same quick email access, but without cluttering your new tab with ads and affiliate links.
How unwanted extensions get installed
InboxNow may have been installed on your browser in one of a few ways:
- Online ads, including ads that look like big green buttons with words like “Start” and “Continue”.
- Search result ads with phrases like “Install now” and “Download now”, especially if your searches were already hijacked (by Fastquicksearch.com, similar sites).
- Notification pop-up ads, either by other browser extensions or by random adware sites.
- Extensions bundled with free apps and programs, hidden in their installers.
All these methods describe promotions that can result in you installing InboxNow accidentally, through a misunderstanding, or without even knowing about it.
It’s possible to install InboxNow purposely but it seems hard to believe. Like I said, InboxNow takes features away from your browser by hiding the default new tab page, then uses your screen to advertise to you. It doesn’t seem like people would install InboxNow knowing how it works.
How to remove InboxNow
You can uninstall InboxNow from your browser extensions pretty easily (and if you can’t, our post “Installed by enterprise policy” (fake) might be able to address the problems).
I would advise you to check your other extensions carefully. MyWay extensions often offer to install the Ask extension that interferes with searches more directly than by replacing your home page. MyWay and Ask are related, so they do promote each other. Other related extensions include SmartEasyMaps, PCConverter, ProPDFConverter, InternetSpeedUtility, and others.
To resolve this quickly and/or to check your computer more thoroughly, you may want to scan your device with an anti-malware application, like Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and others.
