What is Info-search.page?
It replaces the new tab
Info-search.page is a website. It might appear in your browser as your new home page. If that happened, it’s probably because of an extension. A browser add-on must have been installed that changed your browser’s new tab page.
Specifically, Info-search.page is related to various entertainment and utility browser add-ons, such as NBA Madness and Turbo PDF. These add-ons promise to improve your browser with sports news, a file converter, and other features.
For instance, Nba.info-search.page shows tweets by NBA, upcoming matches, and ESPN news stories. The new tabs also show links to sites like ESPN, Netflix, Twitter, etc.
But the new tab pages by Info-search.page’s lack personalization. There doesn’t seem to be a way to remove the links, pin your own links, or change the background picture. There’s also no way to change what search engine Info-search.page uses.
It redirects search queries
Search engines are the websites that deliver you search results. Google is a very popular one. But Info-search.page uses Yahoo, which is popular with browser hijackers.
Ideally, Info-search.page would let users choose what site they want to be their search engine. You already can do this in your browser settings. It’s just, Info-search.page ignores those settings and decides for itself which site you’ll see when you type in a search query.
Info-search.page’s privacy policy is extremely vague about what information it collects, but it does mention that personal data might be collected when you use the application.
This is not good for your privacy. Your search engine can see your search history, which might include a lot of your personal details. Normally, your search history is just between you and your preferred search engine. But Info-search.page wants to include itself in the middle of this potentially very private conversation.
It’s advertised online
The extensions that carry the Info-search.page hijacker are advertised online. Their ads tend to be slightly vague (for instance, show a big “Continue” button in the middle), so if you see them as pop-up ads, you might confuse them for other pages. This could lead to unintentional installations.
If you don’t remember installing extensions recently, then they might have come bundled with other programs. Extensions might have been included in the installer of a program as additional offers. This would have allowed them to be installed together with the main program.
Either way, it seems very unlikely that people voluntarily install extensions that carry Info-search.page. This site is similar to Firesear.ch, or maybe to the various Eightpoint extensions. They’re just not good for users, their features are very lacking and indeed they harm browsers by taking away some customization options.
How to stop Info-search.page redirects
Since Info-search.page is spread by browser extensions, remove the responsible extension from your browser, and Info-search.page will go away.
You can find malware and unwanted applications quickly with antivirus apps. Scan your device with an anti-malware application, such as Spyhunter for Windows, Combo Cleaner for macOS, and others. If they detect suspicious items, then remove them.
Below are the instructions for removing add-ons from your browser and for reviewing the settings that hijackers commonly change. Your default search engine and your new tab page. Review these settings and remove the extension that took over your new tab page.
If you haven’t done it yet, look into how you can make your new tab page your own by using bookmarks and managing your new tab page.
