Problems with Jokerlivestream
Joker Stream is not exactly legal
Jokerlivestream sites allow visitors to watch pirated streams. Pirating sites like Jokerlivestream and Stream2watch help people access sports broadcasts that can be otherwise difficult to find, but they are not legal.
On Jokerstream.net, at the bottom, there’s a disclaimer. It says that links shared are to existing streams. This is supposed to absolve Joker Streams them of any legal responsibility for distributing content that it does not have the rights to.
You are very unlikely to get into trouble for watching pirated streams. If fact, if anyone harasses and threatens you with legal action for pirating, it’s possibly a scam. But the fact that Jokerlivestream is illegal explains a lot of things, including the horrible ads and the many unsafe clones.
Pirating sites show malicious ads
The real problem with the Joker Stream sites is the deceptive and malicious ads. Joker Streams needs to make money somehow, whether through user subscriptions or ads. And the ads are pretty bad. These aren’t advertisements filtered and reviewed by a responsible advertising network, so they’re allowed to be as scummy as they want. Thus, scammers and cybercriminals take advantage.
The ads on Jokerlivestream.xyz, Jokerlivestream.life, and other sites are relentless. They are open new browser tabs when you click anywhere on the site.
If you’re curious why sites allow redirects and deceptive ads like fake download buttons, the answer is simple: the more ads you click on, the more money the site makes. Even if the ads trick you into clicking, it’s still good for the site.
- Fake software updates and media players. They could be browser hijackers that change your default search engine, or they could be ransomware infections.
- Gambling sites. While they’re legal, some gambling sites are vulnerable to scams and you should always check the reputation of a betting site before you even think of joining it.
- Ads for suspicious electronics, appliances, supplements, etc. that trick people into paying excessive fees and recurring charges.
In my experience, both the real Jokerlivestream site and the fake clones were full of dangerous ads.
Scams on Jokerlivestream
Here’s an example of a scam I encountered on Joker Stream. It was the fake subscription scam. There are these sites that sell access to D-tier books, music, and video games for extremely overpriced monthly subscriptions. This is what happens:
- You go to Joker Stream and click on a streaming link or screen.
- Allsports4free or a similar site opens, telling you to subscribe for free to get unlimited ad-free access to HD streams.
- After putting in your email, you’re redirected straight to Playzpop, Playspotz Kungmedia, Goplayz, or a similar site’s checkout for “Account verification”. Yep, straight to checkout. These sites are scams – they do not offer Joker Stream access, they charge around $60 a month, and their free trial period is actually paid.
So, Joker Stream tricks people into being scammed. The victims don’t always realize the problem until they see money disappearing from their bank account.
Basically, any ad or redirect on a Jokerlivestream site is dangerous and could cost you real money. Always read the terms of service and check the fine print. Whatever you do, never give your real credit card number to a site you don’t trust 100%.
How to deal with the Joker Stream ads
Check browser settings
If you’re getting pop-ups and notifications from Jokerlivestream.xyz, Jokerlivestream.life, Jokerlivestream.com and other sites, you can stop them by changing your browser settings. This applies to any operating system, including mobile:
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
If Joker Stream keeps appearing in your browser, restore browser settings and remove unwanted extensions like shown in the last section of this article. Carefully examine each of your extensions and don’t give any of them a free pass.
Search for malware
If you downloaded something from a Jokerlivestream site, use an anti-malware tool to check your computer – Spyhunter for Mac, Combo Cleaner for Mac, Spyhunter for Windows, Malwarebytes, etc. are good programs to use.
Cancel unwanted subscriptions
If you accidentally gave away your credit card details to some untrustworthy site, you need to keep an eye on your bank account. Also, you may want to contact your bank and tell them what happened.
If you had money taken from your account, you may be able to get a refund if you manage to contact the scammers, but be careful not to reveal any information about yourself to them. Do not wait and do nothing, as the payments might just escalate. Here’s a more in-depth article on dealing with subscription scams. Like it says, if you fell for a scam, it’s a good idea to report it because that record will help you protect your credit and your bank account in the future.
Block malicious ads
Always use an ad blocker when using a pirating site. It’ll improve your security and the usability of the sites that you visit.
But remember – don’t rely on ad blockers to stay safe. These apps are not perfect, they do allow ads to slip through. In addition, ad blockers and antivirus programs won’t always stop clever phishing scams.
Find legal sports streaming sites
Legal sports streaming services are worth looking into. They can be hard to find, especially if you live outside US and UK. Still, if you can watch legally, it’s safest to do that.
