How to remove Landslide Search redirects
To remove all malware from your computer, it’s advisable to scan it with an anti-malware program. To remove the Landslide Search extension, it would be enough to go to your browser settings or just right-click on Landslide Search’s icon (a green circular one) and choose the “Remove” option. If you’re using a Mac, check your Applications folder for anything suspicious.
Considering that Landslide Search is a browser hijacker and that it’s associated with some malicious sites like searchbaron.com, it’s advisable to check your computer for other malware. You can use any competent program (Combo Cleaner for Mac, SpyHunter for PC) for PC) and remove problematic programs if any are found. Sometimes a malicious script is placed on the victim’s computer to block them from uninstalling some browser extension, so if your version of Landslide Search keeps coming back after you remove it, a scan for malicious files could help with that problem.
If Landslide Search isn’t the first browser hijacker that you’ve had to deal with, consider using an antivirus program with web protection that blocks suspected malicious websites.
What does Landslide Search do?
Landslide Search is one of those “improved search results” extensions. On its homepage, it makes some vacuous promises for accurate results, quick and easy search, and that it’s all for free. As if most search engines, like Bing.com or DuckDuckgo.com aren’t already fast, accurate, free, and much more private than Landslide Search is.
When Landslide Search is installed, it changes your default search settings in your browser. The address bar, which doubles as the search bar in modern browsers, uses that default search setting to decide which site to send your search query to. Yours may be sent to search.landslidesearch.com and this site can do whatever it wants with your keywords, including storing it and deciding what results you will be shown. It can also modify them, like ad certain links or ads. So, it’s still Yahoo search results, but Landslide Search can change them or add new entries.
It’s true, Landslide Search’s privacy policy lays it out clearly: data about you is collected and shared with third parties for advertising, among other things. For example, data about your browsing habits is used for behavioral ads and market research. Demographic data, your location, info on your hardware may also be collected. And the content that you access through Landslide Search may have third-party ads injected in it.
Another reason that Landslide Search is bad for privacy is that search.landslidesearch.com is unencrypted. This means that your search queries could be exposed to your internet service provider, anyone who spies on your traffic or who gets access to your browsing history.
How did Landslide Search get installed?
Landslide Search may be automatically downloaded by adware bundles and installed by free programs. It’s also advertised online. There are a few ways for ti to be installed:
- Landslide Search is downloaded on Mac devices as a Dmg file and installed as an application.
- On supported browsers, such as Chrome, Landslide Search is installed via ads that mimick in-line installation (a practice that has been banned by Chrome for causing unintended installations).
- Landslide Search could be downloaded in adware bundles that are distributed by fake software updates and installers. It could be installed together with some free programs or installed by malware.
Landslide Search is specifically associated with illegal streaming sites. It probably is pushed by some ads that appear in front of sports streams that ask you to install whatever extension they offer before you can continue to use the website. Sometimes people are told that installing the extension is required for streaming, then they’re disappointed when it doesn’t work.
The websites that offer Landslide Search tend to offer high-quality sports streams over unlimited bandwidth, free for watching and downloading, for free and with no ads. Seems unrealistic? Indeed, illegal sports streams are a great source of malware, scams, and fraud. As are similar “services” for free movies, music, and games. What these sites do is tell you to create an account with your real email address and then tell you to confirm the account by entering all of your payment information, including your name and the CVV. Of course, if you follow through, you will be charged by these “services” for sums that start small and then increase.
Landslide Search is only one of many useless, search-redirecting browser hijackers that are pushed on sports fans using malicious advertising. Other such apps include Searchbaron.com, Ultra Sports Search, Sports Score, and Sports Addict.
Apparently, Landslide Search run by the same people responsible for a bunch of classifieds scams, online scams, and malware. So this is one of the smaller threats, but the intentions behind it might be really, really bad. Landslide Search could do harm by forcing malicious ads into your search results and redirecting you to related scam sites and sites that automatically download viruses. So, remove it when you can and remove all the browser extensions that you don’t completely trust.
