In addition, it’s good to use an anti-malware tool, an ad blocker, or something that blocks malicious sites or redirect ads. Leezeemu.com and related sites, like Allwownewz.com, and other related sites already are flagged as Malware by some antivirus scanners – Virustotal.com. This stops Leezeemu.com from getting through to your browser with its ads.

Leezeemu.com has two sides, the news site and the notification hijacker.

How Leezeemu.com works

Notification hijacker

Leezeemu.com shows ads as pop-ups in the corner of the screen. But the victim has to “allow” it first.

When I came across Leezeemu.com for the first time, it said that I had to click the “Allow” button to subscribe to notifications and continue watching.

That message, as far as I can tell, is a lie. Leezeemu.com is advertised on infringing video streaming sites, so its ads appear to people who try to play videos. That it implies that it has something to do with videos helps it appear related to those video streaming sites and gain some undeserved trust. But it’s just a deliberately misleading ad.

Still, people assume that they do have to subscribe to Leezeemu.com’s notifications. It’s surprisingly simple how Leezeemu.com is able to hijack all these browsers.

A news site?

If you visit Leezeemu.com normally, you’ll notice that it’s a news site of some sort. It has articles, tags, categories, everything. However, it has no original content – it all seems to be copied from LATimes.com, but without attribution and without the hyperlinks.

This is the same thing that related sites, like Allwownewz.com and Thenewstreams.com, do. It helps these sites get more visitors, appear more legitimate, and get certain ad deals.

Problems with notification spam

As you’ve probably gathered, Leezeemu.com is not an ordinary site. It doesn’t have original content and it doesn’t provide any value. And yet, it displays ads on its site and through notifications that it tricks people into accepting. Overall, this makes Leezeemu.com a bit of a malicious site.

It’s sort of an adware infection, even if it only exists in browser settings.

The problem with malicious sites is that they have no standards or care for the safety of their users. After all, Leezeemu.com is just one of the dozens of similar sites. It doesn’t need to maintain a reputation. It’s free to advertise anyone who has the money to pay for it. This includes malicious actors whose ads are rejected by ordinary advertising networks for spreading malware, false information, scams, and other harmful content.

As a result, a significant portion of Leezeemu.com’s ads are dangerous:

  • Deceptive ads for trading sites and other get-rich-quick schemes.
  • Phishing scams, like fake login sites that steal people’s credentials.
  • Fake surveys and giveaways that lead to phishing scams and subscription scams.
  • Potentially unsafe medical products.

What’s more, some of the ads by Leezeemu.com may be designed to look like legitimate notifications, such as an SMS or a missed phone call. This behavior is unfair and dangerous.
