Logic Search Hijacker - How to remove

Logic Search, or Logic-search.com, is a web browser add-on that could be seen as malicious. It disrupts your browsing by changing your internet search settings to go to Yahoo, plus it spies on your browsing history. Logic Search offers “optimized search results”, but it’s only there to show you ads, which makes money for its creators.

Logic Search – browser hijacker

Logic Search has nothing to do with the Mac adware infection LogicalSearch, despite the similar name. Instead, it’s a browser hijacker developed by Webcoapps – the same company that made SearchYA, Vista Search, TinyChill, etc.

A web browser is a program used to read webpages, while a browser add-on is a little modification to the browser that changes how the browser works. The Logic Search add-on changes your browser’s default search engine and gets access to your browsing history. This allows Logic Search to control which website delivers your web search results (Yahoo), as well as read which websites you visited. This helps with advertising.

Bowser add-ons changing your search engine is an old trick. Logic Search can manipulate your search results by injecting a few ads in there, and it can also see what you search for and what you click on. This wastes your time and hurts your privacy, but it helps Logic Search’s makers earn money from showing ads to you.

Logic Search's homepage has a search bar that leads to yahoo.

How Logic Search gets installed

Here’s a problem with Logic Search: the way it’s advertised is really suspicious. Logic Search uses a “Download Ready” page, just like the Flash SD App Required malware. This page is the same as a fake download button. It pops up on file download portals and video streaming sites, where people already expect to need to click a download button to get their file. Ads like Logic Search’s prey on distracted web surfers and trick them into accidentally installing a worthless, ad-filled add-on.

Free programs downloaded from online freeware portals also sometimes carry browser hijackers inside. If you first noticed Logic Search after having installed a new application, then Logic Search may have been downloaded and installed together with that application, in the background. In theory, Logic Search is just an optional offer that you’re free to refuse. But in reality, these free offers are often intentionally hidden in the setup and are hard to see.

Either way, your computer being infected with Logic Search is the fault of unreliable websites. When you visit sites that you know have low-quality ads, consider using an ad-blocker, or just be extra careful to avoid deceptive ads. The same goes for installing freeware: be very careful and uncheck every checkbox that offers you to install stuff.

How to remove Logic Search

Open your browser settings and remove Logic Search and other potentially bad browser add-ons. Whenever something goes wrong with your browser, your first suspect should be your browser extensions. If your problems disappear when using Incognito mode or Private window, then it’s almost certain that one of your browser add-ons is being bad.

Instructions for removing browser add-ons are below.

If Logic-search.com is sending you notification pop-ups, check this article on how to block them. Add Logic-search.com to the list of blocked notifications. This won’t block Logic-search itself, but it will stop the pop-up ads from the site.

  • Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
  • New Edge – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.

Finally, scan your computer with an anti-malware program (like Spyhunter for PC, Combo Cleaner for Mac, and others) if you want to make sure your computer is clean. If it is not, then remove the detected malware.
