Is Mailclick.biz dangerous?
Mailclick.biz shows unsafe ads
Mailclick.biz is an advertising website. It delivers ads from various third parties to people’s browsers. These ads appear as notification pop-ups that are marked with Mailclick.biz’s name.
It’s recommended to not click on any of Mailclick.biz’s ads. Some of them are safe, but others lead to scams, junkware, phishing sites, and other potentially harmful content. NSFW content might show up with no warning, which can be awkward.
Some of the advertisers whose content Mailclick.biz delivers choose to design their ads deceptively, making them look like friend requests and direct messages in social media, or like system security warnings. It’s very easy to click on these notifications by mistake and end up on a dubious website trying to sell you overpriced adult chat services or to get you to join a scam cryptocurrency exchange (Down the Bitcoin Funnel: The Tech Firms Driving Investors to Ruin with Fake Celebrity News - OCCRP).
It tricks people into subscribing
Mailclick.biz is advertised on video streaming (pirating) websites. It appears in new browser tabs, often covering the whole screen, and shows a video player loading a video. The site says that you must allow it to show you notifications if you want to watch the video.
This is false – these pages are just ads for Mailclick.biz and they have nothing to do with the sites that advertise them. Sites like Mailclick.biz, Brokenbad.biz, Quickmode.biz, Meetclick.biz, Greenmode.biz, etc., as well as Streamnotify.net, Videosubscript.xyz, and others, will say anything to get visitors to click the Allow button to enable their notifications. Some of the made-up reasons include:
- click Allow to play the video,
- to play the game,
- win the new iPhone,
- start downloading your file,
- prove that you’re not a robot,
- update your browser.
How to stop seeing ads from Mailclick.biz
You might consider blocking the Mailclick.biz website altogether or getting an ad blocker, but that’s not quite the right solution. Stopping unwanted ads from Mailclick.biz is actually surprisingly simple. Just navigate to your browser’s notification settings and block Mailclick.biz’s notifications:
- Chrome – open Settings, scroll down to Site settings (under Privacy and security), click on Notifications.
- Edge – open Settings, click Site Permissions, Notifications.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- Firefox – open Settings, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
Here, you can see all the sites whose notifications you’ve blocked or allowed. Don’t be surprised to see some unfamiliar addresses – it’s easy to allow notifications by accident, especially on mobile devices. Some malicious websites (like Mailclick.biz) deliberately make it so.
You could block all notification prompts to stop sites from asking. According to Mozilla, most notification prompts go unaccepted anyway (Say goodbye to annoying notification requests (unless you want them)).
Although I said that ad blockers and malicious site blockers shouldn’t be used to stop Mailclick.biz’s ads, they definitely can help you stay safe online. As can good anti-malware tools, like Spyhunter for Windows, Spyhunter for Mac, Combo Cleaner, and others. They can detect adware bundles and browser hijackers which are often the cause of ad injecting malware.
It can also help to avoid websites that show ads for hijackers like Mailclick.biz: pirating, torrenting, converter sites, etc. Or at least be very careful on them. Because these sites show ads for sites way worse than notification hijackers.
