Manuals Aid is a browser extension that can be considered a hijacker. It can be useful, but mostly, it’s distracting. Manuals Aid changes your browser preferences. It changes your start page and favors Yahoo.com as your search engine. It does this to make money from advertising, but it fails to offer a good enough service to justify that. All that Manuals Aid really does is open Manualslib.com for you.

Manuals Aid is a potentially unwanted program
Low-quality extension
Manuals Aid can be called a browser hijacker and a potentially unwanted program. It’s not a virus at all and it can’t really hurt you. But at the same time, it shouldn’t be used: Manuals Aid is adware first and its useful functions are extremely limited.
Manuals Aid sets manualsaid.com/newtab/v1/anaon2.html? as your new start page. This page will be the default page in your browser until you get rid of Manuals Aid or install another new tab browser extension that will overwrite Manuals Aid.
Here are all the (arguably) useful things that Manuals Aid does on this new start page:
- show you your location, time, and the weather,
- post a link to Wikihow.com, Manualslib.com, Facebook, Gmail, Youtube, Instagram, Wikipedia, and Google Maps.
This is literally all there is! You get more use out of a default start page of any modern browser. Plus, there are a few problems with Manuals Aid:
- the search bar in the middle of the start page ignores your default search settings and sends you to Yahoo,
- your most visited sites are not visible anymore,
- old quick links are hidden,
- you can’t customize the Manuals Aid new tab page like you could your default homepage,
- Manuals Aid can read everything you do on Manualsaid.com and read your browsing history.
Adware
Instead of installing Manuals Aid, you could go to Manualslib.com, press the Cmd and D buttons if you’re on a Mac or Ctrl and D if you’re on a PC, and this would add Manualslib.com to your favorites, enabling you to go there whenever you want. You would also get to keep your normal start page with all of your favorite links saved there.
In other words, Manuals Aid is less than helpful. It’s mildly harmful to your web browsing. If it was good, it wouldn’t take over your new tab page. But it does because it needs to spy on you.
One of the reasons why Manuals Aid tracks data about you is, quoting its privacy policy, to:
Enable service providers and us to serve relevant content and advertising;
This is the real reason why Manuals Aid exists – to show you targeted ads.
Targeted ads require information about you. They’re effective, which is why advertisers and ad-tech companies like them. And they also do not require good quality content. Some reputable websites are moving away from targeted ads, as they don’t really benefit from them anyway. Besides, invasive tracking is a known problem and new solutions are being created.
Though there’s nothing inherently wrong with personalized advertising, if your time will be wasted with ads, you should be getting something in return: a good article, a valuable service, etc. Manuals Aid doesn’t deliver, and Manualslib.com already has ads.
How Manuals Aid gets installed
Manuals Aid can is a Yahoo redirect version. People sometimes see their browser unexpectedly redirect to Yahoo – well, Manuals Aid is one example of what could be causing that.
Do you remember installing Manuals Aid? Many of those who have Manuals Aid on their browser probably don’t even know about it. Installing a browser extension is just a few button presses, so it’s extremely easy to do by accident. Here are a few examples of how it could have happened:
- Manuals Aid could have come with a free software download. Some free programs are bundled with additional software that gets installed together. It’s a pay-per-install scheme, where the freeware distributor gets paid to spread additional software.
- You might have been required to install Manuals Aid to see a particular manual online. This would be misleading advertising and it’s often used by browser hijackers.
- Manuals Aid might have shown up in your search results. If your browser was already hijacked from earlier, then links to Zapmeta.com, Info.com, Encryptedsearch.org, Hidemysearches.com, and other sites will be injected into your search results. These ads often advertise browser hijackers like Manuals Aid.
How to remove Manuals Aid
You can uninstall Manuals Aid pretty easily by just following the instructions at the bottom. Right-click the Manuals Aid icon in your browser’s interface and choose the “Remove” option.
To make sure that Manuals Aid doesn’t return, delete whatever installer it came with and scan your computer for malware. You can use any competent anti-malware program, such as Combo Cleaner for Mac, SpyHunter for PC, etc.
Also, check your other browser extensions and remove the ones that have a bad reputation. Just look up their names online. Alternatively, disable all the extensions and then enable them one-by-one; when you find one that was causing problems, remove it. These could be Hide My Searches, Maps Assist (also by Innover), Online Manuals App, ProductManualsGuide, etc.
