Problems with Max Disk Tuner
It’s a very unnecessary app
Max Disk Tuner is a Mac cleaner app. It promises to help make your Mac run better by deleting unnecessary files. Sounds harmless – but antivirus vendors warn about this app, calling it “Trojan” and “Malicious”: Virustotal.com.
Max Disk Tuner also offers an app uninstaller, a button to empty Trash folders, and a tool that monitors app disk usage and evaluates it.
Probably the biggest problem with Max Disk Tuner is that it’s completely unnecessary. Apple already gives you tools to manage your storage, remove unnecessary and old files, and upload files on the cloud: Support.apple.com. Max Disk Tuner offers all the same features, yet it’s a paid program – this is a little strange.
In addition, an app that deletes items to make your Mac run faster is being presented a little dishonestly. After all, the speed of your Mac doesn’t go down unless there’s almost no free space left on your Mac. And at that point, Max Disk Tuner is unhelpful anyway. This app takes up more space than it can save you by deleting logs and caches.
It might cause unnecessary stress
Another issue with Max Disk Tuner and similar cleaner apps, such as Qbit Mac Optimizer and Mac Master, is that they can cause unnecessary stress to their users. They tend to display pop-up warnings urging users to do their regular cleaning. They try to make it seem like your Mac is somehow dirty or clogged up if you haven’t done your daily or weekly sweep.
But when you look at the results, Max Disk Tuner might just be giving you a few MegaBytes of space – less than a photo’s worth. You might benefit from deleting these optional files once every few weeks, but apps like Max Disk Tuner want to become part of your routine, and it’s just not necessary.
How to remove Max Disk Tuner
You can uninstall it manually by removing it from your Applications folder Support.apple.com. At the same time, it’s a good idea to review what other apps were installed at the same time as Max Disk Tuner. There might be more items that were installed with Max Disk Tuner that are also potentially unwanted.
It wouldn’t be surprising. Looking at the websites that Max Disk Tuner can be downloaded from, such as Maxsecuremac.com and Maxsecureantivirus.com, reveals that various other installers downloaded from these sites, like a download manager, are detected as Trojan and Malware by many reputable antivirus scanners. Even the sites themselves get labeled as Malicious by a few scanners.
So, make sure there aren’t any more suspicious apps on your Mac. You can use an antivirus scanner, such as Combo Cleaner, and look carefully at your installed apps. Remove items that are suspicious and that you don’t want to be installed.
Also, open System Preferences:
- Go to Profiles and check for unfamiliar entries. Remove them.
- Open Users & Groups -> Login Items. Remove the files and apps that are unfamiliar.
Remember that if you paid for Max Disk Tuner, uninstalling it doesn’t cancel the subscription.
Max Disk Tuner is an app for macOS, but there also exists an iOS app. It has poor reviews and appears to be missing updates.
