Once installed, the MoreResults virus injects ads into Google.com search results. This is presented as some sort of search enhancement, but make no mistake, MoreResults is adware. And the way that it’s promoted can lead to unintentional installations. So, if you see your Google search results filled with unusually many ads, no need to switch search engines – check your extensions first.

What MoreResults does
MoreResults virus is one of those browser hijackers that hide so well that you might not even realize when they’re installed. Sometimes victims of such extensions go online to ask about why their Google search results suddenly have so many ads. Often they are told that these are just normal ads and advised to use an ad-blocker. But this is not right. This is a case of a malicious browser extension messing with their search results. Such browser extensions aren’t exactly allowed by Google Chrome’s Web Store, and MoreResults virus’ predecessor AddFind has already been removed.
Once MoreResults virus is installed, it can change all the data on any Google.com page that you have opened in your browser. As webpages are basically text documents that your browser nicely displays, some extensions can grab those documents and modify them locally on your computer. That’s how ad injection works. It’s at least good that MoreResults virus limits its effect on Google.com.
The ads injected by MoreResults virus aren’t always just normal ads and they’re not beholden to Google’s ad standards and so they can provide a platform to malicious pages, scams, and other potentially dangerous content. For example, ads for alternative search sites, such as Searchmulty or Kensaq. Such ads just open other, lower-quality search sites with their own ads.
Besides changing your Google.com pages, MoreResults virus also reads them and collects your search queries and your browsing history. It does this to help with advertising, as it says in MoreResults virus’ privacy policy.
How the virus gets installed
MoreResults virus uses a Download Ready template, similar to the Flash SD App Required one. This type of page is often used to promote malicious and potentially unwanted browser extensions. It can trick people into downloading the extension without realizing it, or into thinking that they must install the extension. This is wrong – MoreResults virus is not required for anything – but its advertisement does imply that, thus netting lots of installations (over forty thousand at the moment) and a lot of ad revenue.
Movie streaming sites, file download sites (monetized URL shorteners, usually), video and audio converters (such as y2mate), and similar websites redirect to MoreResults’ installation. MoreResults virus is advertised with a plea to install it to support whichever website you were on previously. This is true as much as clicking on an ad supports the ad-publishing site, but MoreResults virus is quite a high price for you to pay – too high.
Whenever webpages behave strangely or your browser starts opening unfamiliar pages on its own – check your extensions first. Even previously good and safe extensions can be turned evil (a trusted product suddenly starting to abuse users is known as exit scamming). The way to get rid of MoreResults’ ads isn’t to use an ad-blocker (though it can help), but to remove the extension from your browser.
MoreResults virus can also change your data on Find-more.xyz, which is where you can download the extension from.
How to remove MoreResults virus
