MoviesNet Search is adware that gets installed on your browser and makes Yahoo return your web search results. It’s a browser extension that’s supposed to help you find information about movie actors, movies, video clips, and more. In reality, MoviesNet Search is just another Gomovix hijacker. For MoviesNet Search, the “better web search experience” is just an excuse to hijack your browser and show you more ads.

Problems with MoviesNet Search
Not useful
MoviesNet Search’s functionality is so limited that there’s almost nothing to talk about. There is a website called Gomovix.com and MoviesNet Search opens it any time you type a query that starts with “m” into your search box. That’s honestly the extent of MoviesNet Search’s relevant features.
Basically, if you want to see what MoviesNet Search has to offer, go to Gomovix.com.
MoviesNet Search isn’t the only browser extension to be associated with that website: iTheatre Search Plus, MixSportTV, Awesome Movies Search, and others also link to that site.
Yahoo as the new search site
But there’s more. MoviesNet Search also changes your web search settings so that your search results come back from Yahoo.
Search settings in our browsers govern wich website is considered the default web search tool. That’s the site that returns web search results for the queries you type in your browser’s search bar. Most people in the world use Google.com, but there are many websites. Most of them make money by showing ads among search results. You can probably see where this is going.
Regardless of whether you were using Google, Bing, or some other site, you’re still forced to use Yahoo by MoviesNet Search. On paper, MoviesNet Search sets Eanswers.com as your default search engine, but it, in turn, uses Yahoo.com.
Like most browser hijackers, MoviesNet Search tries to get you to use websites that you may not want to use. The more users these sites have, the more money they make. MoviesNet Search is just adware. On the surface, it’s meant to help you find information on movies. But in reality, it’s meant to make you a regular ad-viewer. Your wasted time spent scrolling past numerous ads makes money to the makers of MoviesNet Search.
The difference between a normal ad-supported website and MoviesNet Search is that the latter uses deception to gain more users. Also, it fails to provide a useful tool. It’s objectively bad.
Privacy issue
Besides showing you too many ads, MoviesNet Search poses a privacy problem: it can read any site that you’re on and all the data on it. Luckily, in its privacy policy, it’s stated that your usernames, passwords, email addresses, name, phone numbers, and other personal information is not collected. But still, it’s unnecessarily intrusive.
MoviesNet Search’s description doesn’t include an explanation for why such an intrusive permission is required. Knowing browser hijackers, it can be used to redirect your links or inject ads into your browser.
Ad injection is when a program changes the webpages that you see to show additional ads or to replace the ads that were on it with its own advertisements. This is possible because webpages are essentially documents that your browser downloads on your device and then displays them. A browser extension like MoviesNet Search could mess with those webpages almost without limit: take things out, put things in, read and change everything. Ad-injecting browser hijackers are usually installed using pay-per-install schemes and can appear on your computer seemingly out of nowhere.
How to remove MoviesNet Search
MoviesNet Search should be easily removable in the same way that normal browser extensions can be removed: by right-clicking its icon in your browser and choosing the “Remove” option from the pop-up menu.
The thing with browser extensions is that they’re very easy to install (deceptive ads, free programs that bundle malware, etc.), but they’re also easy to remove. Occasionally malware can be used to keep browser extensions installed, but most of the time, getting rid of a hijacker is pretty simple.
If you don’t remember how you installed MoviesNet Search, it might be time to scan your computer with an antivirus program, like SpyHunter for Windows or Combo Cleaner for Mac OS. These and other security programs can recognize malware, as well as potentially unwanted programs like MoviesNet Search, and warn you about them.
Finally, consider changing your passwords. MoviesNet Search’s privacy policy did say that your usernames and passwords weren’t recorded, but there might be some unintended effects that could still cause problems. So, at least make sure that 2-step verification is on for all of your most important online accounts.
