My Quick Converter v4.10 is an ad-supported extension that is presented as a harmless addon that would make it easier to convert files between various types. It also changes browser settings to make advertising easier, allowing My Quick Converter v4.10 to be considered a browser hijacker.

Redundant functions
The conversion functions that My Quick Converter offers are easily accessible without it. There are ways to turn almost any text, image, or spreadsheet file into a pdf without using third-party tools (and additional ads), so My Quick Converter is very unlikely to be needed by anyone.
Consider that the extension is for desktop browsers. On desktops, we have a lot of basic software available, like image viewers and text editors. They generally come preinstalled with the operating system. And they make it simple to create PDF files from almost anything. For example, if you’re using a Mac, text files, images, and spreadsheets can be exported to PDF files from the main menu. Windows, too, allows many types of files to be printed to a PDF document. So, My Quick Converter putting a few links to online file converters does not seem very useful.
Files can be converted from one type to another without much hassle, but that doesn’t stop dozens of online conversion tools form vying for your attention.
I recommend trying to convert files yourself when possible. This way, you can also avoid uploading your files to various online services and better protect your privacy.
Threats to privacy
Excessively collecting information about people and then sharing it with advertisers is normal for a lot of browser extensions, but that doesn’t mean that it’s good or that it should be accepted as normal. Personal information in the wrong hands could threaten people’s security by making targeted phishing easier. Not to mention advertisers knowing far too many things about individual users. And though My Quick Converter does not share personal information with advertisers, detailed search history (search queries) and location can be shared with advertisers and advertising networks. And detailed information can allow the real identity of the person to be uncovered with reasonable accuracy.
Eightpoint Technologies says that their mission is “connecting consumers with the best content on the internet”, which explains why the main product of their extensions — Search.hthereadinghub.com, Transit Maps Directions, Search.hconvert2pdfnow.com, and many others — has to do with searching for content online, rather than utility tools that the extensions promote.
Unexpected hijacking
The My Quick Converter extension offers convenient web search and quick links to popular sites from the Chrome New Tab page.
The description of My Quick Converter does not make it clear that the search engine will be replaced, only that web search is available, which is expected from a web browser. search.myquickconverter.com, the new tab page that My Quick Converter sets, is an unattractive page that only has a few links to some online conversion tools, and a search bar in the middle of the screen.
My Quick Converter is basically adware, considering how it unnecessarily configures the search engine to Yahoo when it has nothing at all to do with the advertised function of accessing popular converter links. My Quick Converter controlling the search engine allows it to fill it with ads and sponsored links. The extension needs to make money, and this type of advertising is a lot less obvious than putting clearly marked ads in, say, the new tab page.
It is not any less intrusive, though. Consider that Yahoo, known for its ads, displays them on top of results whenever you search for anything remotely marketable. Finding relevant information then becomes more frustrating and annoying.
How to remove My Quick Converter
My Quick Converter, like all extensions, can be uninstalled by going to browser settings and removing it there.
It’s important to consider how My Quick Converter was installed. If you found it on your own, great. But if it was offered or suggested to you by a pop-up, ad, or even installed without you noticing it, that could mean that you have some PUPs — potentially unwanted programs, or possibly even adware. Freeware sometimes includes programs that people didn’t ask for or know about, and they might be installed without the user’s consent. PUPs are not really viruses, but they might cause some problems, so you should carefully consider each and every program that’s allowed access to your computer. You can check your programs on the Control Panel or the Applications folder. Or you can use Spyhunter or another professional antivirus program to check if any of your installed programs are considered to be risky.
