My Transit Planner (or MyTransitPlanner) is a browser hijacker. This hijacker promises to help users get access to transportation schedules and online maps for free, but it works like every other browser hijacker and provides only minimum functionality — replaces your homepage and your web search engine.

My Transit Planner is a browser extension — a type of little program that modifies the behavior of your browser or adds some features. Extensions can be very useful. They can change how a specific website behaves, they can change the appearance of your browser, or change how all websites are displayed. One of the most famous examples of a browser extension is AdBlock.
There are many browser extensions that are extremely similar to My Transit Planner: MyTransitGuide, MapsGalaxy, Easy Maps Now, and others. All they do is change your homepage and track your browsing activities.
My Transit Planner does give you quicklinks to transport-related sites, but the design is so outdated and unfriendly to users that you’d be better off just bookmarking useful websites on your own (modern browsers allow you to bookmark important websites to make them quickly accessible).
Browser hijackers are usually unhelpful and restricting, so uninstalling My Transit Planner is for the best:

How My Transit Planner gets installed
Sometimes, My Transit Planner seemingly just appears in your browser. This happens because it either gets installed using deceptive messages, or you download it bundled together with another program. People also discover My Transit Planner while searching for help with maps and route planning, but it doesn’t mean that they always install it voluntarily.
Be careful when you download free commercial programs from the internet. Some of them make a bit of money by bundling additional programs with the installer. You’re not usually warned about this when you’re downloading the program. During the setup you might be offered additional applications, maybe something like the line “set my homepage to My Transit Planner” in tiny font next to a marked checkbox. Most people wouldn’t even notice it.
You can install My Transit Planner on its own, of course. Ads for this add-on are published on some map sites, as well as promoted by adware sites and notification spammers. The ads seem to suggest that you can get free updates on your transit information right in your browser and have the “Continue” button lead to the installation of the extension.
This is a bit dishonest — it’s not obvious that the “Continue” button will start the download or installation of the extension. This is why I said that My Transit Planner sometimes gets installed under false pretenses.
And let’s not forget the use of misleading ads and redirects. If a product uses aggressive ads that immediately redirect you or spam your browser with unwanted content, that’s probably not a trustworthy product. From what I’ve seen, lots of browser hijackers do this, so someone whose computer or browser is infected with adware will be exposed to lots of deceptive browser extensions.
Is My Transit Planner dangerous
The My Transit Planner extension is neither dangerous, nor really safe. Its goal is to make more people use the MyWay and Ask search engines. It is considered a potentially unwanted program, and here's what some reputable anti-malware programs think about it.
Some people might completely ignore My Transit Planner when it takes ovr their browser. After all, the MyWay and Ask search engines act a lot like any mainstream search engine, even if they do have fewer functions. Other people will find that their browsing experience is severely hurt by the My Transit Planner extension replacing their homepage and default search engines.
The add-on is a mild privacy risk, after all, it gets access to your browser. This includes your browsing history, the other installed extensions, and your search queries. If you’re someone who is very protective of their private data online, you probably don’t want to give My Transit Planner access to your browser.
Besides, My Transit Planner might trick you into installing an additional extension — Search Extension by Ask. Since MyWay and Ask belong to the same company, they’re often distributed together, but having more extensions is even more of a privacy concern.
How to uninstall My Transit Planner
My Transit Planner can be manually removed from your browser (Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, or other) by just following the guide below. Loot at your add-ons and remove all the ones that you don’t use and don’t totally trust.
If you already tried that and the extension returned, then some malware or settings on your computer must be keeping it installed. Try scanning your device with an anti-malware tool, for example, SpyHunter if you have a PC or Combo Cleaner if you have a Mac.
