MyAudioTab is supposed to help convert audio files, however, it’s best to stay away from this one. Its converter is very limited, and it takes over your new tab page for absolutely no reason, other than to promote an affiliated website. Besides, it has a couple of intrusive permissions that it uses for advertising. Really, MyAudioTab is a potentially unwanted program that should probably be uninstalled.

What MyAudioTab does to a browser
MyAudioTab gets installed on a web browser, giving it access to some important settings and browser data:
- log the text you type into MyWay.com and Ask.com,
- read your browsing history,
- show notifications,
- manage your browser extensions and themes.
MyAudioTab is a browser add-on that’s supposed to help with converting audio files from one format to another. It does not convert online videos and audio or streams, so it’s not that sort of a converter. MyAudioTab relies on Audio to Audio for its conversion functions.
MyAudioTab’s conversion tools can be found in the new tab page that it sets in the browser once it’s installed. In addition, MyAudioTab provides quick links to various music-related sites, which is likely relevant to people who are looking for an audio converter
But that is just fluff. The main goal of MyAudioTab is to hijack as many browsers as possible. Then its operators get to influence how the owners of these infected browsers search the web. Most obviously, MyAudioTab tries to get more people to use MyWay.com as their search engine. Search engines are loved as advertising platforms and they can be quite lucrative (just look at Google), but they need lots of users to advertise to. MyWay, owned by Ask Applications, gets users via its many browser extensions, such as WatchMyTVShows, DirectionsBuilder, ManualsFinder, MyRaidoAccess, and many others – which also happen to be owned by Ask.
How to remove MyAudioTab
You can uninstall MyAudioTab in your browser manually, the instructions for a few different browsers are in the last section of this post. However, you may want to check your other extensions. MyAudioTab may have been installed together with other potentially unwanted programs. It happens often enough.
You could also scan your computer with an anti-malware program, such as Spyhunter for PC, Combo Cleaner for Mac, or another app that can detect potentially unwanted programs. The scan results would warn you if any suspicious programs are found on your device or inside your browser.
If notification pop-ups don’t disappear after you remove MyAudioTab, you need to manually block them in your browser, too:
- Chrome – type “chrome://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Safari – in the Safari menu, choose Preferences, Websites, Notifications.
- New Edge – type “edge://settings/content/notifications” in the address box.
- Firefox – open Settings, Preferences, Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click on Settings next to Notifications.
If Myaudiotab.com is in the list of the sites that are allowed to send you notifications, remove it (click the menu next to Myaudiotab.com and click “Block”).
How to avoid hijackers
There’s really no reason for MyAudioTab to exist, at least not as a new tab extension. It could have been made as an extension pop-up, but then it couldn’t hijack your searches so easily. When you’re installing a new extension, pay attention to its permissions and think carefully if they’re justified. Some permissions are a little bit risky.
Scan every installer that you download with an antivirus program. Look up the developer of every program that you want to install. Check the privacy policy. Don’t let shady programs have access to your computer or your browser.
When you click on an ad for MyAudioTab while using the Chrome browser, it shows a card that links to the Chrome Web Store, the home of all the Chrome browser extensions. When an ad or a website tells you to install or download something, be suspicious. Malware uses this excuse of you having to install a thing way too often.
