MyChristianPortal changes the behavior of your web browser in ways that may be unhelpful to you but are useful to its creators. It can influence your internet search habits and to collect data on your searches. MyChristianPortal can be called a browser hijacker.
MyChristianPortal is promoted as a Christian-focused add-on, however, its features are lacking and its main purpose seems to be getting more people to use the Myway.com and Ask.com search engines. Though MyChristianPortal is not very dangerous, there are good reasons to remove it.

MyChristianPortal is a browser hijacker
Web search – Myway and Ask
MyChristianPortal is a browser add-on: a little program meant to enhance your browser with new features or improved functionality. Sure enough, it promises to help you access Christian resources, like Bible verses, themed recipes, music, etc.
However, the main goal of MyChristianPortal seems to be taking over your internet search:
- It replaces your new tab page, even though it may not be the best way to deliver its features.
- On the replaced new tab, it offers a search field for internet search – but it only opens a website owned by MyChristianPortal’s creators.
- MyChristianPortal promotes another browser add-on, one that takes over your address bar – Search Extension by Ask. It is also affiliated with MyChristianPortal.
- In addition, MyChristianPortal can read your data on both Myway.com and Ask.com.
After you install MyChristianPortal, it promotes Search Extension by Ask. “Update your Chrome address bar with Ask.com default search.”, says Ask while a voice reads installation instructions aloud.
While MyChristianPortal takes over your new tab, Ask takes over your search engine settings. As a result of all of this, MyChristianPortal gets to influence how you search the internet and it can observe your search behavior. It is trying to make some money from advertising.
New tab page
MyChristianPortal is not the only Christian-themed browser add-on offered by Myway: there is also Daily Bible Guide Toolbar and KnowTheBible Toolbar. In addition, Myway offers add-ons for other religions, like MyVedicTab. All these extensions are not meaningfully different from each other.
MyChristianPortal (and the other extensions) changes your new tab to its own: it shows links to a few third-party sites, including a site for Christian music, recipes, magazines, a calendar, verses, and the bible. Posting these links to your new tab – that’s MyChristianPortal’s functionality.
In exchange, MyChristianPortal replaces your new tab and home pages, hides your pinned links and bookmarks, and prominently displays a search box that only uses Mway.com to search. If you want to use your preferred search engine, you have to use the address bar. Except that, if Search Extension by Ask is installed, the address bar is also hijacked.
Overall, I think that MyChristianPortal is very unhelpful. You can use browser bookmarks to add sites that you like to your favorites without giving up your new tab page.
How to remove MyChristianPortal
Remove unwanted extensions
Uninstall MyChristianPortal, Search Extension by Ask, and other add-ons that you may find unhelpful. You can remove them in your browser settings.
Some versions of MyChristianPortal are detected by antivirus programs (Virustotal.com), so you can use antivirus tools, such as Combo Cleaner for macOS, Spyhunter for Windows, and others to remove MyChristianPortal and other hijackers.
Be careful of adware viruses
MyChristianPortal may be advertised by various websites, especially file download sites, as well as by alternative search engines like Zapmeta. If you have had search problems even before MyChristianPortal showed up, there may be other adware infections in your browser. Check all of your extensions carefully and disable or remove those that are suspicious.
It’s common that people experience issues with their browsers, like excessive ads in search results or unexpected search redirects, and blame the websites. When really, their problems are caused by sneaky malicious browser extensions. Extensions are powerful and very easy to install – it’s important to take them seriously and to remove those that don’t have your best interests in mind.
